Could someone advise a way to restrict use of MSN messenger?

Its actually a total **** to block MSN. Removing it is a start but then you also have to ban the user from installing new software. Rumour has it that MS will add a block MSN feature in the next windows.

had a similer problem once, the most devious way to stop her using msn messenger would be to block port 1863, unless shes a computer geek she won't have a clue how to rectify it.
This won't work. MSN reverts to using port 80 and if you try and block that bye bye web access!

    Regards,
    Neil.

Indeed, MSN proudly announces the fact that it redirects itself through your HTTP port.

      Stoopid!

        I had the exact problem!

        heres how i sorted it

you need norton firewall installed for this and running in the taskbar as well

when your sisters not in uninstall msn messenger! then reinstall it and sign in your account but when you do this norton should say enable or not i think anyways click on NO! and leave Norton running in the taskbar.when she tries to log in it wont let her it will say unsuccesful all the tiime when you or anyone else wants to use it just enable the connection though norton or turn off the firewall completely from the taskbar icon by right clicking and disable.

        hope that helps!
