PAL final fantasy x-2 owners, a little help please?

well, the UK version of ffx2 is (or should be) be out today, and i'm sure somebody here will've gone out and bought it by now...

so, yeah, the predictable question: before i head london-ward tomorrow and get all excited about it - how's the conversion job (the borders and the speed)? are we talking ffx levels of hideousness, or is it bearable, or is it (gasp) perfect? please let me know... particularly if there's anyone who can compare it to the US/japanese versions. i'm trying not to get excited about it in case the conversion turns out to be a hatchet job, but i sort of am anyway...

    thanks.

Heard that the game had massive borders like the ones in FF10. No idea about the conversion speed but thats most likely with the borders being there.

The PAL version has borders. (i didn't even notice them though)
Don't know about the speed, seems ok but knowing square...
Haven't seen the US of JP version action yet so I can't compare.

Like always, the NTSC version is better.

Having played both versions, the NTSC version is miles better I'm afraid

        Borders suck

it looks the same as the FFX conversion i.e ****. seriously, if you added both the borders together we're talking just short of half your tv screen

They're absolutely massive. Really poor. If you can get the US version.

thanks, everyone - i played it on various demo pods in and around london yesterday, and all i can say is that i'm disgusted at squenix and EA for doing such a pathetic job. there's no way i'm playing it like that - i'll pick it (and ffx, for the second time) up again once i've got my hands on a chipped ps2, but until then... bah.

...and yeah, i did a finger-estimate on the screen, and the borders are literally more than a third of the total screen height. that's so pathetic.

I was going to buy this game if they had done a decent conversion but Square-enix are obviously incapable of doing so, I seriously don't get it, are these games impossible to convert properly or are Square-enix just lazy buggers?

Just in case anyone cares, you can play the PAL FFX in 60Hz with an action replay code

                    It's near the bottom

There isn't one for FFX2, but I'm sure it's doable. It does sound like it screws up the cutscenes and stuff, though.

                      Massively Bordered.
                      Massively Chuggy.
                      Massively ****.

Do not buy. Tell your friends not to buy. If they can't be arsed, then why should we?

                      Balls to them.

Problem with not buying is that they don't care. They'll sell millions either way. I know some people that assume the borders are to give a cinematic effect, for example...

Don't be so defeatist. Spread the word and hit em in the pocket!

As for the people that assume huge borders and slowdown are for cinematic effect I suggest you tell them otherwise and point them to this website.

It is NOT HARD to run games in 60Hz.

The biggest problem with the FF series is the reliance on FMV. They need to either develop a better FMV player to handle mode changes or allow the movies to run at 50 and the game at 60.

I do point stuff like this out but most people are after a simple life

For what its worth I bought a chipped ps2 specifically for FFX2 in 60Hz
