Dreamcast Questions Part 2

Hi all. Welcome to my dreamcast questions part 2.

I`ve got a joytech controller (i can`t find my official one at the moment - Boo ft: ) and when i switch on my dreamcast the Slow LED comes on. When i play any game it keeps saying "Controller has been removed or Memory Card has been removed". It was fine the other day when i was playing Sega Rally 2.
I`ve changed the batteries on my memory card (it kept failing to save games today but it seems to be ok now). Do you think it is the slow button what it is causing the problem?

I got Capcom Vs Snk today (the reason i`ve been playing my Dreamcast) and am going to buy a Control Stick - Does anybody know where i can get one apart from Ebay? Also with the Control Stick where does the memory card go? Is there a place on the Control Stick for the memory card?

first up the batteries in the memory card aren't used to save data, they are only used when the VMU is out of the DC controller and you want to use the VMU on the move. Whilst it is plugged in the VMU is powered from the DC.

The official DC stick is great and has a port for a single vmu along the front edge, so you can see the vmu display whilst you play. Got mine from ebay, i suspect that there are other places you could pick one up, check videogameimports or Tokuda on the forums.

I'm not sure about your other problem, sounds a bit wierd, does the joystick work in any of the other ports or does it work with no disk? I hope you haven't blown the joystick ports.

Just tried all the other ports with no disc in and every time the Slow LED light shows up.

I have just bought an Official Dreamcast controller of ebay - so when i receive it i will be able to check to see if it is the joypad or the joypad port. If it`s just the joypad i will get a Control Stick soon otherwise if it the joypad port it looks like i`ll have to get another dreamcast console.

It could be either, sometimes the fuse blows on the controller port pcb inside Dreamcasts that causes strange controller problems. Some import places do replacements for them (or maybe used to). Checking it out with an official controller should be the best way to find out.

A non working DC controller port assembly is a very easy thing to fix, you can find the info over at the hardware repair forum over at www.dcemulation.com

More than likely it's the DC controller ports which have gone. That and the PSU reset issue seem to be the biggest two things that kill Dreamcasts.

Yeah, but fortunately due to the DC's simple design, it's a joke to take apart and repair. No special tools needed here. Thank you sega.

Just got my Official Dreamcast pad and it`s working ok - no "Memory Card being recognised or Controller been Moved".
