x arcade - is it really a good solution?

have heard quite a few negative things about it, re response times in combos etc due to the breakout box..

it would be cheaper than buying a hotrod for the pc, gc stick and x box stick but if it really is slow at responding then its just not worth it..

some candid opinions would be very much appreciate!

pretty much every web site to review it seems to have been paid off by xlabs...

what are the current best sticks for the x box, and gamecube anyhow? and also whats the best steering wheel i could use on both?

    ta very much! =^^=

If you don't mind buttons all laid out in a straight line, then it's probably ok. Most people with different lengthed fingers prefer a curved button layout. Dunno about response times and that.

It generally seems to be reasonable, apart from two factors. Firstly is the button layout, as Charles describes. I can't stand them laid out like that, but it may not bother you.

Secondly is the fact that its all US components, and so the sticks are stiff as hell. I like a looser stick, and so recommend just buying a pair of Hori Soul Calibur II sticks along with the converters necessary to the platform of your choice. I use the Gamecube one hooked up to a converter to USB in Mame and its just fine, as is my DC stick, which is an equally good option.

If you want it for fighting games, forget it. If you want it to play retro stuff on MAME, then it's pretty good.

          ta for the replys guys!

i had a dc stick, but the magic box didnt support all the buttons so i sold it..

unfortunately i sold my j vfighter stick for the saturn b4 i knew about the magic box

so the hori sticks are good then? ill get one in aki next week!

for mame i`m planning on getting a hotrod or biting da bullet and paying for a full slik stick setup..

seems the best solution is the hori and convertor for the x box then.. i wanted a twin stick setup for robotron/smash tv etc..

soz, but which convertor did you use for the gc stick Mid?

i kinda feared what Charles mentioned about the setup, as i am used to jap sega sticks and uk electrocoin sticks these days.. so i thought for the pc slik stick is the best solution but the price is so high i may have to settle for the hotrod for the time being..

          cheers again for posting!

hadda great game of that new dodonpachi today at the local Sugai, man cave rule!

I use the Skillz convertor for my Hori GC stick to PC. Only downer is that many emulators outside of MAME don't recognise the stick, so I have to use a real GC pad instead.

I use the Joybox 13 for my GC stick. Its understood by everything ok, but the stick maps to a look hat, and the L and R buttons are also seen as slider axes. Mame is perfectly configurable with it, but other things can take a bit of persuasion, to be fair.

For the DC stick I've got a more recent version of the Magic Box that does C and Z buttons correctly, which is nice. The Magic Box also works ok with Saturn pads (and I'd imagine sticks) too.
