    Metroid Prime Question

Only just started playing this. Couldn't find the answer in the manual and it has baffled me (no doubt easy).

To collect power ups, hold A to charge up power beam. Why doesn't that work then?

Once you have the real power beam it acts as a 'tractor beam' and pulls in power ups within it's reach.

So why does the game tell you that when you don't have the beam and you have a power up to collect? TEASERS!

It doesn't work with "proper" power-ups though (e.g. upgrades), just the stuff to replenish missles and energy, etc...

You have the beam from the start of the game too, it just gets taken from you

Yeh I noticed! So I don't get why I couldn't pull in these 2 power ups! I held the beam down. Maybe the game just decided to tell me I can do that even though I didn't need to at that time.

I'll tell you where I was. In the room next to the first save point, where 2 gun guards await.
