    what does nt/authorising shutdown mean

    My bro in law, has a problem with his pc when he goes online after a few minutes it comes up

    nt/authorising shutdown, then it shutdowns pc

    problem is i reckon its a nt op system error but he is running xp?

    any ideas

    Has he got the latest patches from WindowsUpdate and also updated and done a full virusscan? Sounds a little like a virus which was doing the rounds a while back, although I presume that would of expired by now.

    Check that first of all, then take a look in his EventLog (start/run/eventvwr) to see if there are any clues in there.

      phoned and asked him and he just wnet erm dunno

      im off up there armed with norton internet security 2k4 in a while to help him, if the virus scan dont work i'll do the event thing u said see if that spreads any light

        Try visiting the Microsoft website for details of the Blaster worm. From my firewall log it looks like theres plenty of unaware users around.

          thats the blaster worm. install the patch from the ms website and that should sort it
