    XP taskbar groupings

Is there any way of stipulating to XP how many buttons for the same application you want displayed on the taskbar, before it annoyingly clumps them together into one?

For example, if I've got 4 IE windows open and then a pop up is blocked, it briefly flashes up on the taskbar, and all four proper windows end up on the same button, which is most annoying.

Basically I want to tell it to allow more instances for each app on the bar.

NB, I don't want to get rid of grouping entirely as I know you can, I like the way it keeps things together, just not on the same button

Try TweakXP, I *think* there is an option for this within that.

Try a google search before the forum, fella.

Anyroad, either of these will do the trick.

Download TweakUI for Windows XP from the Microsoft Website:

        TweakUI for Windows XP

Lets you change this setting manually rather than do any annoying fiddling in the registry. Plus it has loads of other handy functions too.

You don't have to use TweakUI to stop all similiar program buttons from grouping. You can do that just from right clicking on your start bar, going to properties, and finding the listing that controls that. It is very easy.

Eh, dammit, if I was at home I could tell you, but here at work we use W2K. Let me get home in a few hours, and I'll show you. I do know it's there though. In the start bar properties.

Right click start bar -> left click "Properties" -> fill in checkbox next to "Group similar taskbar buttons"

                    That'll do ya.

Thank you - BUT --- I know how to group the buttons, I wanted to see if there was some way of dictating how *many* buttons get grouped together before they disappear into one.

                      Clear as mud!

If you use TweakUI, goto TaskBar | Grouping, this is where you select the amount of grouped windows.

As long as you're sorted out now, mate. Sweet.
