    Recording sound from a PS2

I'm trying to make an mp3 of the Air Raid Siren at the start of... you've guessed it... Siren.

Any ideas how I can do this?

Back of ps2 optical - optical in a hi fi/soundcard.

Providing Square has an amp with optical in, yes. If not, you can take the signal from either the stereo you have or your TV, in various ways. Let us know your kit if you can't take the PS2 -> Hi Fi via optical route. Oh, and what medium you are recording to, as well, if it's not into a soundcard. iPod? Net MD?

Cheers for the replys, guys. I only have the PS2 hooked up to a TV, and my (rather ageing) amp doesn't have optical in.

Can you record to an iPod using firewire, then? Sounds interesting...

Right, a few leads to go on. Cool ^_^

Firstly, do you have an argos splitter? You can run 2X phono from that if you have your PS2's SCART lead plugged into it. I know shat-all about iPods, but I would bet there's a phono -> [whatever iPod's audio-in format is] lead you can get.

You can't run the optical straight from the PS2 to a recorded device, as the signal is coded, iirc. My mate tried PS2 -> MD that way and it failed, anyway. The gimp wanted the Metal Gear music to listen to

Depends on what you want to buy (well, I bet you want to buy every electrical device known to man. I know you too well ). The SCART splitter plus some sort of lead will probably work best. So, you have a PS2, iPod and an aging amp....hmmm....I'm sure we can cobble something together. Better ask an iPod expert about the audio-in method next, maybe in the official iPod thread in OT?

you need gizmos to make ipod record at all, and even if u get them its not very good, best bet is phono out of your ps2 into the line in jack on your pc's soundcard and record it that way

Hmm.. thanks again for the replys

I had a feeling that recording directly to iPod would be like a hassle coupled with a burden. I do have that Argos splitter, and a spare phone lead, so that's probably my best/easiest bet.

I actually want the Siren itself for my ringtone (I can also use it as a particularly effective alarm in the morning ), but having said that, some of the music in Siren is just stunning. Indeed, Tomoko's last scenario plays host to the games most beautiful music. Very spooky.

I now have a beautiful copy of Siren's attract audio. This is how I did it: Using a standard PS2 RGB lead with phono connectors I connected the console to the input on my MiniDisc player, then set the record levels halfway and set the record mode to analog. I have pulled quite a bit of Sirens music like this, which will soon be transferred to my iPod.

Oh, and I'm going to put that Siren sound on my phone and scare old people on the bus.
