    XBox DVD Question

Much to my surprise, I've just discovered that the official DVD playback kit for the PAL Xbox also works on a Japanese machine. Does this mean if I get a US playback kit, I can watch region 1 movies too?

yes you can, but after you have pluged a pal one in it's locked to that region now.

So that's it locked to R2 now? For good?

Not chipped, no. I was just hoping I could have a short-term solution to playing DVDs, as I had to bin my proper DVD player last week.

it should be locked to R" now.
if you had a chipped xbox you could have had it region free

I think you get a few goes before it locks. If you now try and plug in a R1 DVD kit then it'll play R1 discs (I think - I haven't tried it) but then after you swap them over 5 or so times then it does lock onto whichever one you have plugged in on the magic number of times.

Like I say, I'm just going from memory of what I've heard, I don't actually know anyone who's tried it, and it's probably not worth buying a R1 playback kit just in case it's bollocks.

It immediatly locks onto the first inserted DVD dongle from Region <insert number here>.

The "5 times"-story mostly applies to PC DVD-Rom drives.
