    Is it a real copy?

If not, then thats your problem.

Disconnected from the net entirely or disconnected from the gaming server?

If the former, are you using a USB broadband adaptor?

if it's your actual connection that's going down, make sure you're not using extension leads, many dsl services don't like them.

              Interesting.

Is this only when you fire up Flightsim2k4 or can it occur at any time? I only ask, because I've found some odd annoyances with my brother's DSL setup, which I've borrowed/hijacked.

Basically, it's that BT yahoo broadband package, which comes with the Voyager 100 usb adaptor. Now, as is, it runs perfectly. I thought I'd give it a stress test, wanting to experience the usb horrors myself first hand, so have left SWG and downloads running for 2 weeks continuously, perfect.

Now in the past week the dsl connection has momentarily died twice, requiring a reboot to reconnect to the net (the windows net connection doesn't die per se, but all throughput does and the connection sys tray problem crashes if I attempt to disconnect).

imho, it's not a usb load issue, as I can can the banwidth all day long, have my phone charging on a usb adaptor as well etc. Just picking up on what Fusion said though, my setup (through necessity atm) is thus:

              main socket
              |
2 way splitter -------> bt supplied filter ----- > phone
              |
              approx 10m extension cord
              |
              bt supplied filter
              |
              voyager

During a loss of dsl, the cables have never been disturbed (I've been in the house on my own), nothing I could think of that might give out interference (heating pump etc) suddenly switched on. It just died.

              Similar problem I wonder?

i'd guess that's where your problem lies, yes.

I had a similar problem when I connected an NTL cable modem through USB. The connection would drop and using the diagnostic tool that was provided all it would tell me was that the PC was not able to communicate with the cable modem.

When this happened I'd have to reset the PC and unplug the modem for 30 seconds which was a pain in the ass. I've read that you can get various USB (or possibly motherboard) upgrades to stop things like this happening but in my case I just switched to connecting via a network card and my connection problems stopped altogether.

At the moment i've got a PCI ADSL modem and this has served me pretty well, they tend to cost about ?30 if you're interested.

Is anyone actually in a position to direct wire their adaptor to the main socket?

I've had BT install sockets before, the cable they use doesn't appear any more shielded than what you might find in an extension cord. Still, easy to point the blame at this, not so easy to explain why it'll provide continous bandwidth for weeks, then suddenly stop without provocation.
