    gamecube vga extension lead q

I've just got one of these doohickeys off saurian but I lack a dvi (is that the right name?) on my comp and want to connect it direct to the monitor, do I just need a female to female connector?

And I tried it on the port of my friends packard bell laptop but couldn't find the option to make it realise something was plugged in, couldn't make it do it with the DC vga either (though that has a connection direct to monitor) so er any help there would be great too, ta !

My cable should plug directly to your monitor - if your monitor has a different gender socket an adaptor will be fine.

Once you have it all set up - be warned that you will not get a correct image until prog scan is enabled.

      I think there's some confusion here m8:

      - you can only plug your Gamecube to your monitor directly via the VGA lead

      - check the VGA port/lead on your monitor and see if the Gamecube VGA lead fits

      - as far I'm aware you can't plug a VGA source (such as your Gamecube) directly into a laptop; only into a normal monitor or TFT monitor

      - DVI is another way one can connect a PC (must have DVI output on the graphics card) to a compatible monitor (must have DVI input); DVI (digital) is superior to VGA (analogue). At the moment, there are no DVI leads as far as I know for the Gamecube.

If like my Apple monitor, the VGA port on your monitor is male (the Gamecube VGA lead is also male) then you need a 'Gender Changer'. In particular, as Saurian says, the 'female to female' type. I got one of these from Micro Anvika on Tottenham Court Road in London for about ?5 (I may have been robbed, I don't know ...).

You then plug your Gamecube VGA lead in one end, and your monitor's lead into the other end.

Turn on your monitor. Insert a progressive scan compatible game (e.g. Zelda or Mario) and turn on your Gamecube whilst holding down the B button on the controller. Nothing will display at first. After a few seconds, press the A button. If it's all working, you'll see the game start.

      Thanks
