Zelda Wind Waker question

I've only just got this game, and I'm enjoying it a lot. But I cannot understand why my character seems to be able to carry no more than 200 rupee's - is there some explantation for this that I've missed? Seems a little pointles me looking for treasure or picking them up for the time being at least.

I'm not sure if there is a reason for it, but later on in true Zelda fashion you can get progressively bigger wallets!

What a daft idea, only letting you carry 200! For no reason!!!! And yet the boy has more pocket space than Guybrush Threepwood.
