    magic box advice needed

Thinking of getting one of the (above link) magic box pad converters for my xbox so I can use my DC stick and various pads for mame, but I think I recall some talk on here about it mucking up game saves etc.
Can any one confirm or tell me otherwise before I make a purchase?
    Cheers

I just wasted cash on one of these.

Doesn't work at all with my Hori PS1 fighting stick (scrambled input and keeps scrolling though the Evox menus selecting things at random )

Doesn't work properly with the DC stick (lag issues and not enough buttons for coin, menu etc.)

Works fine with a Saturn pad though.

No probs mate, that's just my take though, I may have a duff one!

I did notice that Lik Sang & Play Asia are doing an Xbox fighting stick (called a Cosmo X Fighting stick) which is a modded Saturn Virtua stick - looks very nice and just the job for FBAx etc.

ive just ordered one of these along with the gc hori sc2 fighting stick!

i hope the parts are the same as the old jap saturn stick as i loved having one of those things! felt just like a model 2 cab...

It's PSX/PS2 contollers you have to be careful with. When I used a Magic Box with my old skool Namco stick, it went and deleted all my Xbox saves >_<

Oh, and it only maps 4 out of 6 DC arcade stick buttons.

                kewl will do!

couldnt find arcade style x box / gc joysticks in either downtown sapporo or aki for love nor money! then again by the end there wasnt space either ...

did get donkey konga with control for 4000 yen at sofmap tho! quite a result i reckon due to the update coming out.. think i`ll get that too and get a second controller into the bargain when that goes cheap..

sweet to see "colours" on the dk playlist

Your best bet is to get a Hori Fighting Stick EX for the Xbrick. I have one, and I wouldn't part with it for love or toffees.

                  Or money.

Does anyone carry any stock of this anymore, I can't seem to find it at the usual webstores?

The newer PC version maps all the arcade stick buttons. I have one, but haven't used it enough yet to offer a full opinion. Haven't even tried it with a PS2 pad yet!

I bought a magic box and It worked great for about 6 months then things started to go crazy and buttons would go off at random. It did work well with the DC stick though.

I've now bought a new one from that promises to support rumbe but It does work with my Ps2 dance mat which was the main reason i got it.

wow this was hard to find again!

anyhow i just got the xbox/saturn joystick in from playletsinconvienienceyouthatbitmoreasia

so it looks to me like they either have tons of the excellent saturn joystick and have put an xbox controller inside for the wiring OR they got access to the moulds etc and just made new ones

hell i`m not about to open it up and find out tho..

good points , looks and feels good nice and heavy doubt it will break and even then would be easy to replace broken buttons or switches its also very very cheap but the shipping costs more than the stick itself so only worth ordering with a lot of other stuff - tho not with play asias notoriously mixed packaging results you may either get mint goods like some or damaged boxes like others so the choice is yours

bad points stick is initially very stiff, perhaps the clip is on too tight..

like the original saturn stick (the am white one not the suckass black one) the stick is microswitched but the buttons are leaf switched so if you like to taptaptappy shoot em up or bash bish bash beat em up heavily at some point youll have to replace parts, tho my old saturn version of this was fine with the switches despite some very thuggish players using it..

also like the original stick, the joystick itself does tend to stick in the up/down directions tho youll mainly find this going thru menus, in game on both versions this doesnt usually happen at all

i found it took a while to get used to the up diagonals on the saturn version and currently more so with this stick mainly i imagine due to the clip and the sticks initial tightness which should fade in time..

it does look smart and will no doubt grow on me, the best alternative perhaps the only real one would be the sc2 stick and a convertor (can that corrupt saves tho?) or an x arcade which i have yet to use due to so many negative feedback (from users, not bried websites)

its obviously been produced for people with modded x boxes and from the packaging its obviously come from a very small enterprise indeed.

8/10 (perhaps 9/10 after it loosens up)

hope this helps any potential buyers of the stick.

                              hang on a sec tho

have just had a sesh with shikigami no shiro o the box and its sticking almost all the time i press right

so i`ll have to return this tooo..

the play asia packaging was a joke, some old 3rd hand cardboard box so i really think it may have been knocked about during shipping

i may just end up requesting a refund on the entire order.. sighs..

why or why cant there be a decent japanese import/export webstore ...
