I'm not sure... But I thought the Nuon was some kind of gaming device built in a couple of dvd players.

Thats exactly what it is, see www.nuon-dome.com for info.

There were only about 5 commercial games released for the system, of which Tempest 3000 is one (hence the high 'average' Edge review score).

            I have a Nuon and Tempest 3000

I suppose the Nuon is a collectors must-have, especially with a copy of Tempest3000, without that game it is pointless.

Is the nuon console still in production.

Is it a dvd player first with a necessary hardware added on to play games.

How powerfull is it etc etc.

                Where can you buy one.

Great game, but gave me a migrane. Hadn't had one for a couple of years before playing this game!

No, they stopped producing the European (Samsung N505/N504) and Korean (N591) models sround spring 2002.

The company that designed the Nuon chipset (which is basically just a games console) VM Labs went bust around the same time.

Yeah. Sometime into the Nuon's development VM Labs decided to sell it as a multi media processor, designed to go into DVD players and set top boxes. The Nuon board does all of the media decoding for DVDs.

All well as a handful of games, a couple of DVDs were released that had additional Nuon software on them, but they never took off. The US version of Bedazzled is one.

Difficult to say, its a strange peice of kit. I think its comarable to a Playstation with higher resolution graphics and decent filtering. However Jeff Minter developed Tempest 3000 in tandem with the hardware, and was instrumental in getting some of the more interesting features built in.

VM Labs tried to encourage people to port ps1 software to the Nuon, which gives you some idea.

They're not that easy to come by. A US Samsung N501 is probably the most available, on US ebay.

After that you could try for a UK N505, but you'd have to fit your own controller ports, described on my website here:

Try the llamasoft forums at www.yakyak.org for help with tracking down a N505.

Tempest 3000 and the controllers are still fairly easy to get hold of.

I've viewed this site a few times, it just a pity they don't still update it. I sent two of them an email a while back, asking if they were continuing to update it, but never heard back
