    Panasonic Q: f76 error code

Hi there... I'm new (and have been reading the articles on this site for quite some time now), and somehow wherever I looked regarding my problem, I got directed to this site. So I hope someone can help me.

Yesterday I got my new modded Panasonic Q from Lik-Sang. Everything seemed to be working fine untill I played an mp3 cd through the machine. Just to be sure this beauty could really play mp3's... It did, but at some point the machine shut itself down (in stand-by mode) and gave some kind of error code in it's display. The code is: f76. I tried to get the machine working again, but it didn't start up, only showing the error code after each press on the power button.

After an hour I pressed the power button once more and suddenly the machine came back to life. I tried some games and after a while the machine shut itself down again, showing the same code in this display. But, I got the thing working again (it was in Gamecube mode now) after pressing the power button a couple of times. Odd, so a couple of hours ago I put the machine on dvd mode and waited for the error to come. It came and the machine shut down again. And up till now I haven';t been able to get the machine running again. Sometimes it shows the blue lights for a microsecond but then it powers down again.

Yesterday I played some games on it, a VCD and a DVD and the Q worked perfectly... but today the f76 error hell started and I'm trying to find and answer somewhere.

I contacted Lik-Sang, but they won't contact me at least till tomorrow, and even they might not know what happened. I also don't really feel like sending this thing back to HongKong... So I hope someone can help me here. I googled on this subject and a couple of other people on some cube forum seemed to have the same problem, but no solutions were given.

So, if anyone knows.. thanks in advance.. And great site btw

Maybe this is usefull for somebody with a little more knowledge of the subject . I opened it up (on the fan side) and I've been viewing the insides for a while. Haven't touched anything, since I have no clue how these things work. But it looks like everytime I press the power button something moves and clicks right below the cd/dvd/cube-games player (in the upperhalf of the machine). I'm not sure, but this thing might has to move and click itself in a position so the machine stays on power. But it looks like it isn't able to stay in that position and goes back to power off mode. So that's why the machine won't power up anymore and gives the error code.
Also when I'm fast enough with hitting the power button it doesn't click and the machine shows the "hello" and "goodbye" message as usual (it doesn't do anything else besides powering up and down really fast).

Anyway... I'm guessing and I might be talking bollocks here... So uhm.. anyone?

I don't think there is any easy fix for this. I've seen a couple of people mention this problem before, but no explanation for it.

As its an intermittent fault, its possible that one of the fans has died, or something is overheating. Another possibility is flakey memory of some kind. Those are just guesses though.

You can turn it on in DVD or GameCube mode by pressing the Play or Game buttons - does that make a difference?

The click is probably just a relay switch, giving power to the rest of the machine from standby. It doesn't really help isolate the problem, just shows that the Q is shutting itself down.

Your best bet is to get in touch with lik-sang about it.

I've had an error on my Q in the past which was fixed by Lan Kwei from which I bought it from many moons ago. The result was I sent it back, they refunded me the postage fees, sent the Q back as 'repaired DVD player - no commercial value' and didn't have to pay import duties as a result in record time

The explanation given back then was that the mod was done in a rush by a subbie and that I was getting an Fxx error because of it. I suspect this is what's happening with your machine.

I'll have to search for my original post on GCII- I'll post a link up later since I can't access it now (got restrictions at work to which sites I can view) and hopefully it will shed more light on your case. I can't be certain it's the same Fxx error that you got.

Yeah I tried pushing every button, pushing buttons at the same time.. all kinds of combinations.. nothing seems to be working. Yesterday after I posted the message I tried and the machine started working. I popped in a game and let it run.. after 6 minutes or so the machine shut down again...

I suspect it's the same thing yes. I would appreciate the link, maybe it can help me a little. Also towards Lik-Sang who, going by their reply, seem to be in the dark as well with this error.

Mike @ LK knows - since I wasn't the only person with the problem. My Q played havoc when I had the error and after playing for 5 mins the message would suddenly pop up.

I actually got a better deal for sending it back - as when I bought it first off it was without the mp3 and multi-region capabilities and would only play R2 Japanese and boot in US and Jpn mode only.

I think I'm gonna mail him. I actually contacted him two days ago about the Q RGB cable they have for sale... maybe he can tell me a little more as well about this error...

                        F76 is a PSU problem.
                        Kept you waiting, huh?

Could be I guess. F76 is a PSU across all Panasonic hardware.
