Two very quick RGB questions....

I have checked the import guides and searched the forum, but no luck in answering these questions so......

1. Does the Panasonic Q require a different RGB cable to the usual US cube cable (the homemade one)?

2. Is the GAME RGB cable for PAL gamecube a load of rubbish (I heard a rumour) and if so which unofficial cable is the best?

Same D Terminal cable mod but instead of a Nintendo AV lead for the sound n' sync - 3 phonos are used (the Q has no Nintendo AV port)

2. Is the GAME RGB cable for PAL gamecube a load of rubbish (I heard a rumour) and if so which unofficial cable is the best?
Venom and Dragoncube RGB cables are fine with PAL Cubes - but all (even the official one) are inferior to the modded cable.

Could you explain why you think this is?

I have the Q and modded RGB cable, as well as a PAL Cube and official RGB cable. Running Japanese Super Monkey Ball next to the PAL version in 60Hz I can tell no difference whatsoever in picture quality. If anything, the PAL RGB cable has less hiss on the audio.

Plugging the modded RGB cable into the PAL Cube and switching between that and the official RGB cable on an Argos scart box I can tell no difference at all. I have a decent Sony 32" TV too!

No discussion - some people will never see the differences . Perhaps you should not be running a ?50-?60 cable through a sub ?10 switching unit though .

With my setup there is nothing between them. The switching unit will not make enough difference to nullify any improvements, surely.

I'd appreciate if someone could explain what is noticably different with the modded cable.

I'm not doubting your ability to distinguish anything - just stating that the type of improvements are hard to quantify. Numerous factors come into play as to whether or not an individual will see any improvment.

There are arguements to be had where some people will state that a piece of coat hanger wire is as good a conductor as any speaker cable you can buy. Personally I think that is crap. Would you say I was mad in spending over ?100 on a custom made IEC Power Cord? Many people would agree as they cannot or will not believe otherwise. I've been testing various Power Cables over the past year or so on my Arcam/Loewe equipment and can tell you that the one I spent over ?100 on has resulted in more detail, colour depth, vibrancy, clarity, openness and weight of soundfield.......I could go on.

If you were standing beside me while I was doing the comparisons, you might reach the same conclusions as me or you might not. It doesn't really matter though as I respect your opinion and it doesn't mean I am right or you are wrong.

Construction wise, the official D-Terminal/Component cables are leagues ahead of the official PAL RGB cable.

Outer sheath is protected via a 99.999 Oxygen Free Tinned Copper Braid. Inside this is a paper wrap which contains the 3 individual Component Video wires. Each wire is tightly wrapped in Aluminium Mylar screening foil. The outer sheath of each indivdual wire is a Low Loss Foamed LPDE Dielectric. The wire conductors are tinned copper.

Open up the Offical PAL RGB cable and you will see a whole different story - added capacitors to boost the signal and a little IC that the whole signal has to go through before reaching the individual pins.

I see an improvement in the modded cable but I am entirely happy if others do not .
