Can PAL GCs read Japanese format memory cards?

Just my friend wants the Winning Eleven edited data... The guy who has it says he has heard the PAL GCs can't read Japanese format memory cards.

What about the Freeloader, that isn't affected if you have a Japanese memory card in a PAL machine?

    Anybody?

I know that it formats the memory card to the country of use (with US/JAP ones) but I would like to know is if you buy a uk memory card, will that work (as in format it to JAP or US).

Sorry to high jsck your thread. I don't think I have been much help anyway.

The UK card will work for both UK and US games. You'll need to buy another one and reformat it to play JAP games.

When using a JAP Cube saves are made using Japanese characters for the name of the save file. When using a PAL or USA Cube with or without a Freeloader saves are made using English characters.
So, a WE6FE save file made on a JAP Cube will only work on a JAP Cube, and a save file made using a PAL or USA Cube with Freeloader will only work on PAL or USA Cubes.

But if you use a freeloader to boot up a jap game, does that not mean that the GC is technically protraying a Japanese GC?

I find it hard to believe that if you have a Japanese game running (on a PAL GC) and you insert a Japanese formated memory card you can't save/load...

I don't know if this info is any use to you, but I had a UK memory card, and used it for US saves (NTSC cube btw). I accidentally left it it the machine when I was playing PN03 (Jap), and when I went to save it corrupted the card and I had to re-format it, losing all of my US save games.

I don't know, everything was in Japanese, all I really know is that it tried to access the card, and possibly save, but it corrupted and asked to format pretty much immediately. I'm sure that it would save after formatting, but then if I tried to save US games it would probably corrupt them too. I'm going to get a second card for my Japanese saves.
