Boring I know - Yet another TV query! Can you guys help?

Right, I'm in the market for a TV as my utter bollox of a 28" Phillip non-NTSC TV is so crap, it's not worthy of any of my consoles anymore.

Anyway, I decided that I want a standard nicam widescreen TV but I don't want plasma, LCD or rear projection TV.

Primary use will be in this order.
Games, DVD's, TV and teletext (sad I know but good for footie results and my potential winning lottery ticket!)

Is the Toshiba 36ZD26B really that good as shown here...

And does the extra 4" over the 32" model really justify ?400?
?400 is a lot of dosh but will I after a while say '****, I wish I spent more on a bigger TV!'

Also will I 100% have to say bye to my gun games?
I know that some games work on certain guns on 100hz TV's.
Is there an option on these 100hz TV's to go 60hz so I can play my gun games?
Are gun games likely to be compatible with 100hz TV's on upcoming future consoles?

Finally, are there any other makes of TV's that support both componant and progression scan on standard TV's (not LCD, plasma or rear projection) like this Toshiba one? Is it better than this Toshiba TV?

Help me choose a TV guys!

Thanks to all your replies in advice!

All gun games work at 100Hz its the actual guns that have the problem with it - I know Xbox has guns out that work at 100Hz - I think PS2 may have.

Unless your room is huge I wouldn't pay ?400 for 4 extra inches. Don't think there are too many progressive scan TV's around and not sure if any offer component input.

definitely spend an extra ?400 on a 32" screen.

28" is ok for the bedroom but to use as your main set ???

you know it is too small or you wouldnt be asking here, and the benifits of progressive on a 32" screen is minimal compared with 40" + , and on a 28" I would rather stick the money into a bigger screen.

Go on be a devil order the 36", be skint, go hungry, go cold, but look at the silly grin you have on your face as you stare at your reflection in the screen

Sorry for the confusion people! I mean does it justify an extra ?400 on going from the 32" Toshiba Strata to the 36" Toshiba Strata...
The 32" Toshiba Strata I want is ?900 whereas the 36" Toshiba Strata is ?1300.

Anyway, another reason why I ask is, it's not for the living room...
        It's for my bedroom!

32" was plenty big enough for 10 people to sit round my lounge and play Saturn bomberman at the meetup. 36" is massive and has more frequent problems with picture shape problems. Go for the 32" and spend the rest of the money on games.

Yeah, that was my other concern, was it big enough for 10-player Bomberman!

Looks like I'm gonna go for that 32" Toshiba Strata at ?900.
            Anyway got one?

Does it really support both component video input and progressive scan?

That's my main reason for getting it!

I would seriously go for the biggest set you can afford.
the tosh can be adjusted in the service menu for any geomertry problems quite easily anyway.

bigger has more impact and is more involving when it comes to viewing media of any type, you want to surround your field of view if possible.

read the infor on www.avforums.com do a search on there and you will find pages of info on these sets , and also some info on the problems they have to.

I've got a 36 inch TV and I would say its more than worth it to get the few extra inches, remember its more than 4 square inches you get in total it really does give you that extra much needed size. In the long run its more than worth it IMO.

                    ****, decisions, decisions...

gIzzE, what size TV do you have?

I'll have a look at that avforums.com now.

Woh, just read this about the 100hz Toshiba strata that I might be getting...

                      Toshiba 32ZD26P only progressive 60Hz
Does that mean I can play all my gun games on it fine or what if I'm playing my games if I use a componant cable???

****, only certain games support progressive anyway, right?

I'm on about consoles like PS2 , Dreamcast, PSX and Saturn...

I recently bought the 36ZD26B and everyones jaw drops when they see it. Yet no one says its TOO big, theres no such thing IMHO (unless its a budget Plasma with poor contrast ie LG etc).

                          GO FOR IT MATE

also I got mine for ?1400 delivered from a shop near me which is a very good price. Empire, unbeatable etc seem to deliver after ages with most people. Get John Lewis to price match if you can.
