    MAME

I realise there are probably about 1000 threads for this, and if anyone can direct me (i've searched, couldnt find anything) please feel free to do so.

    Anyhoo

I've just re-downloaded Mame and got myself some roms. I had it working fine last time, however this time, its being a right bitch and wont load Metalslug 3 or Alien vs Predator (and a few other games)

It says there are missing files, but i wasnt sure if it was because of that, or, because i've been a tit and did something wrong.

    Any ideas?

P.S. The Metalslug 3 rom was 79 mb to download if that helps. Also, which is the best version of Mame to use? Im using Mame32 atm

Is this running on an Xbox?

If so - you need Kawa X (Neo Geo, CPS1 and CPS2) emulator to run Metal Slug properly, it will run CPS2 games like AvP too but I prefer using Final Burn (CPS1, CPS2 and some shoot em ups like Guwange and Esp Ra De) for CPS2.
Mame does not have a virtual memory system implemented yet - KawaX does.

    *btw - Guwange = VITAL!*

The ROM sets also change quite often between MAME versions. You *probably* don't have to find a whole new set - there are apps. that will convert your ROM set from one version to another. I can't remember what they're called - maybe Google for it?

Yeah it's most likely to be older ROM sets for the version of MAME you are running. There was a fair bit of changeover for 0.80 so I hear, so a fair few sets won't work now.

Why do sets change? Too long to go into, new parts are dumped out and stored to be run, rather than directly emulated by the program itself for starters. Or it's found not everything was dumped properly before, and parts have got different checksums.
