Ipods and cd ripping advice needed

Just treated myself to an Ipod (so cute )
Does any one have any advice on the most basic and fastest cd ripping apps, my problem is my 700 mh laptop will only rip cds at normal playback speed with the software that came with my new toy. And at the rate I`m going it`s gonna take me all year to get all my cds onto the pod.
Any links to pod sites would be cool.
Many thanks and god bless you all

    Happy St P`s day

    Yup I`ve had a few

i think musicmatch is one of the faster ones.... i do recommend using iTunes thou for maximum id3 matching with your iPod, etc.... just makes things a bit more consistant!

Yea the pod software is a nice an easy layout with some easy to use functions, it`s just the ripping speed I don`t like.
I`ll give the musicmatch prog a go.
      Cheers

If you install ASPI drivers, im sure your laptop will rip at the appropriate speed

Try CDEX and the LAME codec.

            iTunes isn't necessarily the problem.
Mine starts importing at about 2.8X and then works up to just over 5X by the 2nd track.

I have no idea if this fast in comparison to other applications but it's certainly faster than your 1X speed.

I'm on a Mac BTW, shouldn't make a difference though.

                  Same here.

Got my iPod two weeks ago. Still have that happy glow.

iTunes has messed up the naming of one of my albums. Is there any way to get it to try again?

                    Just change the names yourself.

At the end of the day it comes down to what you want:

                      SPEED or QUALITY

With a decent drive most software can rip at good speeds (12-40x).
However, this speed comes at the cost of ever decreasing accuracy.

I recommend you use ExactAudioCopy. http://www.exactaudiocopy.de
It IS slightly daunting for the new user but its well worth it.

You can rip in burst mode for the best speeds out there and decent accuracy (speed: 1-max)
                      OR
Rip in secure mode for the most accurate, error free rips (speed: 1-16)

It also has built in freedb support and you can encode to any format you wish (adding proper tags at the same time)

As suggested you can change them your self or if you're too lazy go advanced/get CD track names. It should bring up a few options, especially if somebody has put the wrong info in What will have happened if the names are incorrect is that somebody using iTunes has submitted the wrong data.
That's for the mac version anyhow, the PC one should be the same.

Most of the time it won't give you any options, it'll just download the messed up names again. In that case the best thing to do is enter the correct names yourself and then upload them to the CDDB. That way other people will be able to choose the corrected names.
