Whats more, when I installed SP2 last night, the first thing it did after reboot was present me with the security centre - you're only a couple of really obvious clicks away from where you unlock any programs you want to for internet access. Couldn't be simpler, really.

      Didn't take long!

This requires somebody to run a script via the command interface, as far as I'm aware. It's convoluted to say the least. The drag-drop exploit has been around for ages...

Had a poke around the registry today, here's how to disable them stupid annoying popups.

Go into HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Security Centre and edit the Notify values in there.

if you mean the "Popups have been blocked" icon, you can do that without tweaking the registry. in IE goto Tools > Internet Options > Privacy. then Settings in the Pop-Up Blocker area. The options there to turn off notify.

No, I mean the gay "YOUR COMPUTER MIGHT BE AT TEH RISK!!!!!!!!!!" popups from Microsoft Security Centre all the time.

Legendary: I assume you mean svchost.exe? It's called the service host. You need it to run a fair few services - try to find out which service is playing up (Control Panel ->Administrative Tools->Services, check which services use svchost.exe) and go from there.

You can also turn them off in the security centre by choosing "I have a <whatever> that I manage myself", or something like that.... can't remember exactly but nobody should need to change the registry, especially given the level of some folks ability (as SP2 has made apparent ).

You can kill all of the annoying popup notifications totally by using the security centre as marklar says. Ive been on SP2 for a few weeks now and its pretty transparent, cant say I notice anything different about the PC in general useage and havent had any problems.

No you can't. You can turn off the anti-virus/firewall ones but not the ones about Automatic Updating.

You can turn off auto updates in Properties of My Computer under the Automatic Updates tab.

You can turn off automatic updates, I would presume that stops the notification.

                              It certainly does for me.

Well, damage to my client's Intranet connection system aside SP2 has done wonders for my sister's computer.

She is now able to maintain a decent wireless connection to my WPA encrypted 802.11g network where before it would randomly drop out despite full signal and no problems with my Macs.

It's nice to no longer have loads of CAT5 stretched accross my flat after all those weeks!
