Where has the 50 / 60Hz option gone?

On my X Box? Got PAL Steel Battalion today for my PAL chipped XB. It doesn't run properly with the switch on, so I switched it off. Now although it runs fine with the switch off, I can't seem to find the 50/60Hz option on the dashboard.

Am I just being a dumbass and looking in the wrong place ('video' options), or is there something else I need to know? I can't tell if it's running at the 60Hz speed or not, because it's not exactly a quick game anyway...

Just a guess. Did you switch the video mode on your PAL Xbox to NTSC? When you switch the mod off does the Xbox stay in the same video mode last selected, irrespective of whether its originally PAL or NTSC. That might be why you aren't getting the PAL 50/60Hz option, the Xbox thinks its an NTSC machine (the PAL game would still load up on the NTSC Xbox as the game is region free.)

As i said a complete guess.

Well it is still in NTSC mode when the switch is on, so it could be a good guess. I'll try the enigma swtich when I get home. Presumably if the game is running in the NTSC video mode, PAL60 would be the same speed?

It's the original game I'm playing. I know that LoC is region free, but I hadn't read that the original was as well.

Just checked and i was correct.

When you switch the mod off the Xbox stays in the video mode last selected. So your Xbox is currently in NTSC mode.

Yes, i s'pose its running at the same speed as PAL60.

Btw, didn't know you were talking about the original game. No idea whether its region free or not.

Yes this sometimes happens on GameCube games with 60hz, like Super Monkey Ball each time it asked which mode i'd like and i'd select 60hz then another time it just loaded the game in 50hz - could tell by the flickering at the edges of screen - had to resort to the pressing the "B" button upon boot up to bring it back to normal again.

I dont understand why can't all PAL Cube titles have a 60hz option as standard, instead they are "optimised" which may look like its running at 60hz due to the full-screen but really its not at proper 60hz speeds - annoying.

Luckily though, all Resi Cube games has the option...
