Hiya, do UK versions of pokemon work with US versions?

i have a US sapphire and after many long journeys i've maxed out the pokedex, so i'd like to get Ruby in order to complete it "properly", however - dont want to get a UK version of Ruby only to find out it wont link up with Sapphire (ala Mario Kart Advanced)

Yeah they do link up, I just did some trades with a mate, I've got a US cart and hes got PAL, I gave him a Jirachi off the US bonus disc aswell onto his PAL cart.

I have been told that the US versions can trade with the japanese version but i dont know if that applys to PAL as well.
