Could you explain the problem? Are you getting power at all?

It's hard to work out what you mean but I suggest maybe your stepdown wasnt rated high enough and stopped functioning after that hour?

it used to work perfectly.had it since it was released.i also have a 'normal gc' and that runs perfectly.what happened about a few weeks ago was that the pq would read games.it took loads of tries for them to work.then what happened is that when it worked the games work for about an hour then the machinie goes off.now it wont switch on at all.thanks for helping me out by the way!!

Damn - it's hard to work out these faults without the machine in front of you, but I'll give suggestions:

You're not getting power - if you are confident that the stepdown is fine and have tested it on another machine to eliminate it as a cause the next suggestion is that you have a PSU fault. The Q has an internal transformer instead of the Cube's external one, you (may) have a blown fuse on this board or damaged capacitors. Can you get someone with electronics skills to test for you?

Has your machine been modded? If you dont find fault with the stepdown or internal PSU it could be down to a bad connection inside the machine, has it been modded? It may be possible that something is not right due to the way it was re-assembled.

But then you mention that you have problems reading disks, this suggests that there is a problem with the lens - this fault may be a lot harder to sort out as it's not easy to get spare parts for Qs. (may link to the fault above)

Is it possible to get in contact with the people that modded it?

Part of the mod involves replacing an IC, this could be faulty or maybe it's simply down to something not right with the machine's re-assembly.
