Two component outs and only one input best solution???

    Hi all,

Have a little problem with inputs and outputs....

I have one NTSC XBOX with component out for prog scan
I have one NTSC game cube also with the same output for prog scan
I have one tosh tv with ONE component input

what the easiest way to connect these two consoles to the one input with no loss of signal and easily switchable?

    As cheap as possible?

    any ideas??

there must be prog scan 2 into 1 adaptors similar to the scart ones you can pick up in most places nowadays.

Try google or local "up market" TV store

I have the same problem, I have got round this by using a 2 phono to 1 phono adaptor, you have to ensure that only one machine is turned on at one time.

Quality wise, it works just fine, I'm running this arrangemnt into a Yamaha Amp and outputing it through 10m of Van Damm cable to a ceiling mounted PJ.

Looks fine to me, should be more than OK for your Tosh TV

I have a toshiba tv with component ins and to begin with I used 2x phono to 1phono adapters like :

but i found it took a lot of brightness and detail out of the image, so I eventualy replaced it with one of these ::

which I've had for a while now and it works great, no loss of brightness all full detail and great

bit pricey but worth it imo

Audio authority do an excellent componet switcher model number 1154 from memory.

I uuse one from Zektor the HDS4.2 which gives me two outs and 4 in, but they also do a HDS4 with just one output.

Both available from www.copperbox.com , great company who will mark the item down to save you getting hit on import duty and vat.

Ive had a JVC switcher for a few years now, it supports 3 x component input and 2 x svideo, and composite. A button for each input changes between each one. Model is JX-S111.

Aye, I've seen Marcus' component switcher and it works fab.

If you're thinking about buying an AV amp in the future, many Denons and Marantz receivers have component switchers built into them. Just a thought if you're in the market for one anyway.

Typically Component switchers aren't cheap. I think marcus paid a fair wedge for his from the US.

                  Scancom do one for ?87.00.

Don't get the sancom unit if you want to use progressive, it can not handle the bandwith and will give you banding and other video nasties.

Are you sure? The video bandwidth it can handle is 100 Mhz. Each 480p channel would only be 12 Mhz. 720p and 1080i are 30 Mhz, so it should handle them too (multiplying by three for each channel and then allowing a tiny bit for audio).

The blurb in the technical description definately says 'Works with Progressive Scan YPbPr 480p, 576p, 720p or 1080i Component Video'.

Everyone I know who has had one has returned it.

I know it says it can handle it but there are issues.

Amazingly I'm using an AV switch box for my Cube and Xbox that cost me ?10. Both machines display in prog scan with no quality loss at all. It doesn't cover sound, but at the mo I'm saved with optical on Xbox and standard phono straight into the TV on Cube.

I'm currently using the scancom one, I have no issues regarding any 'banding issues'.

Plays fine with my DVD, xbox and GC.
