I'ved tried a boot disc on UK DC with US game, that booted fine, 60hz full screen, then i tried VF3tb Japanese version that however booted fine but in 50hz with borders - tried another Jpn game Guilty Gear - 60hz full screen - so a mixed bag really. Get an import DC if you want 100% full-screen, full-speed games - I'ved just tried PAL Powerstone - 50hz on UK DC but 60hz on import!

yeah. same goes for the xbox too if it's in pal mode.
i have a jap dreamcast and i don't necessarily recommend buying one if someone doesn't specifically ask for one, however a jap or us machine is much better than a uk one (and you can swap the psu for a uk one from a broken dc or something for cheap or even free) as it can be converted to full pal operation (retaining rgb compatibility too, unlike the PS2) by soldering a jumper, that's it. upon doing this, any game you play will be in pal60 unless the game doesn't allow it (eg. uk resi evil code veronica doesn't work in pal60) in which case it will play in 50hz as intended.
you'd need a modchip though but these are cheap now (lik-sang does them for a fiver) and it's only 4 wires. or you could use the boot disc and not have to keep selecting your desired video mode.
otherwise the DC-X will be fine if you're not fussy about disc-swapping

I have a JAP DC and a DC-X, so I've got all I need. Mostly play Japanese games, so I don't use the DC-X much anyway.
