    PS2 online

If I have a modded PS2, can I still play online? Without switching off the mod? I know it doesn't work for Xbox, but what does the PS2 online scan for?

I want to be able to play my NTSC games online, and not just PAL. I don't even own any PAL games.

There's an online scan which is the DNAS check.

?DNAS? retrieves information about a user?s hardware and software for authentication, copy protection, account blocking, system, rules, or game management and other purposes.

Hope it helps. I don't know much detail about it.

DNAS can tell whether your game is original or a backup? So if it detects you're playing an NTSC game in a PAL ps2, it will reject you? Can it also detect a chip installed if it's switched off?

I didn't know you needed to create a universal account for online...

As far as I know, DNAS detects the game's region and if it's a backup. If it's a backup or/and other region it will not let you play.

About the chip I would assume it's safe as long as it stays turned off.

I think DNAS actually detects the region of your console, and games connect to their specific region servers.

So if you try and connect using a US DNAS game on a pal console, the server will reject you because the console's region is wrong. DNAS also looks for cheat devices like the Action Replay.

There was some discussion about this here:

How does it tell if the copy is a backup or not? If you loaded it with swap magic, and it is the same region as the PS2, will you get past DNAS?

By looking for a mod chip or cheat device. It may not be able to detect them though.

Dunno, the swap magic boot disk might leave something resident in memory that the DNAS client can detect.
