Playing the US FFXI (PS2 version) in Europe

Hey guys... I will paste the topic I posted at the IGN boards... Please, read it.

Topic Title: Is anyone in Europe playing the US PS2 version?

I've just been told that the US PS2 version might not work in Europe. So, I was just wondering, have you ever seen European people playing the American Playstation 2 version? This is important .

I, of course, have an american PS2 and I played games online on it (and I live in Europe). What's different with the US PS2 FFXI version? Do you have to have internet through a certain ISP at the states? Do you choose your ISP when you first set it up or it doesn't ask for it?

Or is it a problem with the credit card, maybe the US PS2 version doesn't accept European credit cards...

The guy who told me doesn't remember on which forum he read that and what exactly was the problem... Maybe he misread or he's been misinformed or whatever so I just wanted to make sure because i'm ordering FFXI with the HDD from the states tomorrow and I don't want to risk it .

Any help is appreciated... I know that it normally 'should' work but I want to be 100% certain.

    Thanks in advance...

    Probably due to DNAS.

From what I have recently learnt, it will try to connect to the US server, but won't because it detects your PS2 is PAL. This person with the NTSC PS2 from Europe should be able to play it, unless they don't accept foreign credit cards.

It might also have something to do with the Europe version being 50hz which is incompatible with 60hz servers. This will only hold true if the game decides to connect to the server based on the region of your PS2 instead of the region of the software.

      Hi,

I've been playing the US version of FFXI since release on my US machine right here in England.

I thought I may have had a few problems when it asked for my address and wouldn't let me select the UK as a country. I entered my address exactly as it should be just choosing a US state and postcode (as I recall).

After doing this I was presented with the screen to put my credit card details in and it asked me for the billing address for my card - UK was a selectable country so I chose that, entered the details and away I went.

I'm due for billing in the next couple of days, but assume all is fine, it wouldn't have let me continue if there was a problem.

        Ok thanks.

Was Cyprus or Greece a selectable country?

By the way, Square-Enix bills EVERYBODY at the first day of the month. So if you registered, say, the 22nd of March, you have been charged about $3.5 the first day of April (those 8 days remaining) and you get the rest of the month free. You will be charged again at the first of May, and that will be the full price, $13.

So you HAVE been charged, so there are no problems Cool...

          What he says.

Works just fine with an ntsc console here in the UK.

I'll second that, I've had no problems (all US kit)
