      it works but
the pic is grainy and has lines running through vertically
but run it through my CRT it looks lovely

I have two machines and i am gonna buy a new TFT anyway, just wanna make sure this one works nicely

when i initial had this problem, fellow forumite had this input on why the pic was grainy with running lines
      wicky:
what resolution is your TFT screen?

THe GC will only output a picture that is 640*480 which is probably a lot lower than your screen and you screen is scaling the image [and unless you have a top TFT] it will look pants.

Look for away to switch off the scaling/full screen mode on your monitor options.

      Neil.

Sounds to me like the you haven't set the monitor up - on the D-SUB/VGA input on my TFT, there is an Auto button that you should press when the entire screen is filled with a graphic. That sets up all the options for you and should get rid of all your picture noise problems.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's a monitor setting problem. It's a case of TFT monitors not being able to handle console games via VGA (CRT monitors, of course, are absolutely fine), mainly due to the aformentioned resolution problems, but even more so with response times. Check out my thread and people's feedback here: Do you run your Gamecube on a TFT monitor?

After four months of researching TFTs, taking my Cube into shops, testing lots of different screens, I came to the conclusion that the only way to get PC and console gaming performance in the same TFT screen is forget about VGA for gaming and go for a LCD TV/PC monitor hybrid - which can handle the PC via VGA/DVI but also comes with an AV input of some sort, whether it's composite (least desirable), S-Video (OK), RGB (great) or component (progressive scan and almost as good as VGA!). The following models have VGA and/or DVI as well as some form of AV input(s):

          Dell 2001FP
          Dell W1700
          Goodmans GTV17WLCD
          Hyundai WTP-17
          IIyama Prolite C480T
          JVC LT-17E31
          Marantz LC1700 17
          Neovo X-19AV
          LG RZ17LZ10
          LG L1810T
          Panasonic TX-22LT
          Philips 17PF9936
          Philips 17PF9945
          Relisys RTL1720
          Relisys RTL1700
          Samsung LW17N13W
          Samsung LW17N23W
          Sharp LC-20E1

My search, funnily enough, ended last Friday when my Iiyama Prolite C480T arrived. 19" LCD TV, VGA/DVI, composite, S-Video, RGB and Component (true progressive scan!). I have run the Cube on it via VGA and experience the same problems with other VGA TFTs. However, using the component input ... the picture quality is absolutely the best I have found on any LCD TV/PC (it really is the only acceptable picture quality I have found on any TFT based screen) and ghosting is non-existent.

I'll be posting my feedback regarding the Iiyama in the above thread in the next couple of days so bookmark it if you're interested. Cheers

From that site it appears it's actually:

              Sub Total ?652.70
              Postage ?9.95
              VAT ?114.22
              Total ?778.61

A good price and comparable to the next cheapest prices. Alas, I had to pay about ?30 more since eBuyer's returns policy was the least riskiest (had the screen not lived up to my expectations). I hope you enjoy the sacrifice I had to make and do buy it from the cheapest place!

EDIT: I have finally got around to posting my impressions of various monitors I tested, including the C480T, in the thread I linked to in my first reply. Cheers.
