How many colors is PS2 capable of?

Is the PS2 capable of 16 million colors? Because I know the PS1 is... says so on the back of the box.

But the VGA box for PS2 says it's capable of displaying the image at 65535 colors, which is considerably less... Is the PS2 only capable of 65k or is it a limitation with the Vga box?

The PS2 can display six colours - that's all of them except red. You can imagine-in the red yourself, by remembering a red thing you've seen, like a post box or a bus.

Seriously, the PS2 can do 24-bit colour, which is your 16 million colours. I can't imagine any reason why a VGA box would discard colour resolution, since it should really only be upping the Horizontal Sync Frequency of the existing RGB signal. Either the packaging is wrong or I am. Both seem fairly likely.

It's as capable of as many colours as the marketing team think they can release as limited edition to the gormless people that buy more then one of them in different colours.
