DC import advice needed desperately - Please help I have NFI

I just bought a US NTSC Dreamcast off eBay. I'm new to the scene so I need advice on just about everything.

    Questions so far.....

    1. What do I need to play Jap imports on my US console? DC-X cd? Lik-sang the best for this?

2.Why are there two versions of Garou on play-asia:
Online shopping for Import Video Games, Digital Codes, iTunes Cards, Mobage & PSN Cards, Movies, Music, Electronics, Computers, Software, Books, Apparel, Personal Care, Toys & more.

    Which do I want?

And why do some games have 'For Matching Service' written beside them.

    3. Which Japanese shooters and fighters would you recommend (in order)? I can get Shikigami 2 or Psyvariar 2 with the DC-X disc. Which would you go for? Neithe (btw I have Ikaruga already for GC). Border Down a downer? (review here gave it a 7/10)

    4. Jet Set Radio - does the japanese version have much jap text? Should I look for a 2nd hand US verion instead?

    - Please recommend a good online store otherwise I'll be using lik-sang and play-asia for most purchases.

    - Were many games like Last Blade 2 and Garou also released in the USA? Shouldl I opt for these instead? Soul Calibur Jap no different to the US version etc?

Last question. Do the Japanese games play flawlessly on US NTSC DCs using the swap disc? No slowdown or quirks.

Thanks. Sorry for all the newbie questions. Ist just I need to start shopping soon and looking for the info would have taken me ages.

I will check out the top 10 DC games thread upon my return.

    -cheers

    1. DC-X boot CD, and yes, lik-sang is where you want to buy it.

    2. One is the original version, and the other is the re-release.
Original ver. = skewy angle with Rock offering his hand to the camera.
Re-release ver. = Both Rock & Terry are standing up semi facing each other.

    3. My Preference is:
    Shikigami no Shiro II
    Psyvariar 2
    Ikaruga
    Bangaio
    Mars Matrix
    Border Down
    Zero Gunner

    4. No idea.

    - Use Playasia/ lik-sang if you wish. They're good.
    - no idea about Last Blade, but Garou got released in the USA under the moniker of 'Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves'
    - There should be no problems when using a swap disk.

Lastly, this should be in the Import Q&A folder ;p

      Thanks.

Sorry. If a mod would like to move this topic to the correct folder Id be much obliged.

So I should just get which ever Garou is cheaper I guess

      Thanks again

The text isn't very important in JSR. But try and get De La JSR instead, it has the extra levels and music from the US version.

it's a shame it's got the US music in it, Rob Zombie track ruined it, looks like the PAL ver was the best then with the Richards Jaques music in.

Border Down I got the LE the other day and think it's good fun I'm acctually prefering it to R-Type Final. Shikigami No Shiro 2 is a nice little game, Psyvariar 2 is a must have and Zero Gunner 2 is fantastic. Also highly recommend Gunbird 2, but otherwise leave em

Best online place for DC games (Jap) IMO are E-Bay traders 'mark-in-japan' and 'steve666b'.
I have bought countless games off these two, and they are always new/mint and packaged really well.
            Have fun
            Nick

you could download utopia for free, its a very good DC boot disk.

and for matching service, means, sega used to run a service where you put in your stats online then it would match you up with someone with the same stats and youd play against them online, unfortunately this now only works with f355 challenge.

If your Dreamcast is NTSC then you can just try using Utopia. It will work for most games and since you have an NTSC Dreamcast, the games won't try and load in 50hz.

Last Blade 2 also got a US release, but was censored (blood was coloured white instead) and had the Hanafuda mini-game removed. I don't know if Fatal Fury (Garou) was censored in the US.

Like Garou, there are also 2 versions of Last Blade 2 in Japan - one original and one re-release with different artwork (otherwise they are the same).

just resurrecting a thread to ask a related question -

if I'm wanting to play NTSC games on my PAL machine do I need to use a seperate memory card for games from different regions (like on GC) or can I have multiple regions' saves on 1 VMU?

                        thanks
