I've been trying alot of the different Half Life mods since I got broadband and this has become one of my favourites.
Here's a link to the current build. its about 100megs.
The graphics (or at least the mapping) in this game aren't too hot but the gameplay and atmosphere is something really different. It's set during the american revolution so you fight with muskets. The accuracy isn't too hot on these guns so you end up missing alot. Add the fact that it takes a good 10 seconds or more to reload another round and you get a very different kind of gunfight.
Melee is definately a large part of it (you can stab them with the musket) and takes alot of skill surprisingly. It's even more difficult than the shooting. All this adds up to you being excruciatingly vulnerable when you're outnumbered so it's vital to play as a team or you'll get cut to pieces.
Level design seems limited initially but its starting to make sense now after a few days play. Most are very linear so you end up grouping your team together and slowly pushing forward. Some of the best moments are when your team get themselves organised, line up and cut up the oncoming opposition. There's a nice sense of getting to know the other players because you work together so much unlike in a game of Day of Defeat or Counter Strike where people can play pretty independantly on a public server and still get on alright.
All in all it's a very interesting mod that fundamentally changes the way you play FPS. If you can get past the unpolished presentation there's alot here for someone who's weary of the genre.
