I want to know if you free to explore and do sidequests like finding discoveries and crew the game after beating the end boss or is the last save just before the boss and do you need to have done these things if you want to do them.

Yes, you have to have done all that before the last boss.

Thanks for the advice MR_BEN, you have certainly saved me some heartache had I completed it and found that I was screwed and unable to do all the other little side quests. Cheers
