PC Case Windowed Side Panel ?

On my previous PC Case I had a while back, I attempted to take a jigsaw to the side panel in order to make a Side Window and then fit a cold cathode tube to smarten my PC up a bit, duno why, Im just one of those arty type people who cant leave some things alone I guess!
Anyway, it didnt go to plan, the metal is thicker than I first thought. I now have a new black PC Case and would like to buy a ready modified Side Panel and just change them over, I have found a handful of places to get them but are mainly replacement parts for different makes of cases, for instance Lian-Li are a big 'modified' case company. I did however find this... http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...ed&ref=inktomi

I thought that most standard sort of cases are universal, every computer Ive had in the past with a Midi ATX Tower case are the same in terms of structure and side-panelling. My side panel is basically a flat sheet with breath holes along the top and bottom quaters, with two holes on the back lip to secure it to the case with screw's.

Does anyone know of a place to get replacement PC cases bits, preferably universal and in black or a place that modifies your existing case for you? Ive searched the net high and low and also had no luck finding a side panel for my case since mine is japanese made and sold through a UK company, unfortunately they no longer stock them!

    Many Thanks in advance,

    M.

Don't know if this is of any help but try

Might be able to find what your looking for on there.

I'm sure if you sent them the size specs of the panel you need they'd tell you if any of the ones they stock would fit

I always thought that the real point of a PC case was that the nice big sheets of metal were busy shielding the rest of the place from all that RF noise that PCs create. This is still the case, yes? Or do PC owners just not listen to the radio any more?

If you can't find a ready-made panel to fit your PC, you could always have another go at doing it yourself - just don't use a jigsaw. Try a Dremel instead, you can get them pretty cheaply these days. I've used mine for cutting metal, and it can be a bit slow and generates lots of sparks and heat, but it's quite easy to control and you get a nice cut. You can buy pespex panels ready to fit from Maplins, the one I saw came with some rubber trim so you could hide any raggedy bits you'd made when cutting the hole. Really shouldn't be too much of a problem

Yeah but whats the harm in adding a bit of creativity to your PC case so it looks "better" (or is that tacky?). I certainly have

Got any pics of your case demon? There should be a modified computer / console sticky, kinda like the "Your gaming setup" thread. Whatya think?

The only things I listen to the radio on are the digital tv and my PC

Don't bother, or just buy a case that looks good.

I've messed up lots of cases recently trying to make them look like
ones I've seen on the net. In reality I guess alot of these modders
live in the US and have their own workshops etc (like they all do).

Even had a nose bleed cos of the fumes from spraying the paint
too thick on one of my PC panels, said it dried in 24 hours but
wasn't dry and kept giving off fumes for weeks whilst I was using
                the PC.

Cut my own blowhole too, and it looks rubbish like someones cut
a hole in my case, lol, instead of looking natural and stylish like you see
on modding sites. Wish I hadn't got the idea in the first place, in total
would have been alot cheaper to buy a ready built case for the
?120 I spent on minimalist tools and paint.

On the point of a chrome rimmed & motiffed window & neon lights. Why!.
Unless you live in Essex of course, then it's just a case of natural progression, I look forward to seeing pictures of PC's with huge bass
                speakers modded inside.

I can get some if you really want, infact it will give me an excuse to borrow the digital camera so I will try and get some.

Looks better than boring grey, although thats a matter of taste. Plus I would have never noticed the smoke inside my PC as quickly if it had not been for my side window. (Nasty business those live wires touching a metal case )
