Painkiller, Is it really better than Farcry?

    I think so

First impressions of both were good

Farcrys graffics are nothing short of the best ive ever seen in a a game

Painkillers, also very good but its the 'feel' of a game that gets me hooked.

Farcry was eyecandy for sure but it played a bit crap imho but Painkiller is a different kettle of fish

It reminds me of Q3 the way it moves and feels to play and the bosses!!

FVCK ME, the bosses are GREAT, ive never fought anything so scary since the days of doom2 on the old dx486 days!

Seriously im only on level 1-5 on NIGHTMARE setting but the 500 foot boss is pant fillingly hard...

Multiplayer is also fun from 1st impressions, something FC lacked as I found it to play quite naff in MP

Anyone else played Painkiller yet, im very impressed with it!!
    8 and a half/10 I think

    FC 7/10

    My gosh, are you kidding?
Painkiller's more immediate fun, but there's no depth to it. If that's what you want... a straight mindless shooter with nice graphics... then go for it.
I think Far Cry's a better game, but to be honest they're very different.

I tried the demo of Painkiller and thought it was awful tbh

I just couldn't take to it at all.

I'd say it and Far Cry are two totally different scales of the FPS genre and its difficult to compare them.

I must echo opinions here, you might as well try to compare an apple to an orange, they're both FPS games but that is where the comparison ends.

Painkiller harks back to the more immediate FPS action of Doom et al, and, more recently, Serious Sam; the enemies are duller than stumps and come at you in choking waves, the levels are largely non-interactive and objectives rarely stretch beyond find X key for Y door.

I do enjoy such blasts, I loved Serious Sam, but there's just no longevity in them ( unless you can gain enjoyment from playing the same levels in bite-size bits every now and then, sort of like stress relief ). Far Cry on the other hand has entirely different aims; smart enemies, one huge, seamless environment rather than a series of deliberate levels, vehicles, etc.

Both have merits obviously, but it saddens me when one must be 'better' than the other.

Yeah, Painkillers a mindless shooter, geared towards the Quake/ UT 2003 crowd, twitchy shooters.

If you like them then this is probably the next step up, although I admit Serious Sam was fun I paid budget Price for it, this will probably happen for PainKiller to.

However it didnt have anything special, it was just another generic shooter with insane weapons, if you prefer that to technical and graphic lovelyness then thats fine.

When I played the demo it felt like serious sam, except not funny, not fast and I felt no urgency when playing it. I just wandered around shooting things, but in Serious Sam or Far Cry I wanted to live, so I was always on edge.

Its a hard feeling to explain but its why I didn't like Painkiler.

On farcry you can hide in bushes like b00g does, so its blatantly bettaire. ^_^

I find the bosses in Painkiller as annoying as they are impressive. That said, I can't get enough of the Havok2 physics engine atm; nailing zombies to the wall with wooden stakes - I'll take some of that, please!

I havent enjoyed killing within a game as much since the days of doom2

Endless waves of demons and soldiers and various other things coming to kill you, you dont have long to think of anything otehr than staying alive!

I have SS2 and dont think you can compare these 2 games, This is so much better and the graffics are nothing short of special.

Im not far from completing this now on single player but id recommend anyone that loves FPS and wants plenty of fighting/killing to get this!

If you buy it from GAME and dont like it, simply return it, you have nothing to lose, but im sure youll keep it once youve had a go!

I agree, it's a welcome change from the so called games for thinking
people like Far Cry that simply put you to sleep and can be completed
whilst eating your dinner or smoking a joint.

I miss games that keep you on your toes and call your full attention
and reaction skills. I've only played the demo, but after a few minutes
I had a humungous cheesey grin permanently afixed to my face.

It's a simple formula, blow up everything with your gattling gun and
enjoy the spectacle. Always a welcome formula for me, I don't play
games to think I'm intelligent by games pretending they have a plot,
                      I play for entertainment only.

It runs pretty good too, infact it ran with everything on maximum
quality no trouble, even on an old machine using a 3yr old geforce.

This is a great and welcome refreshment to gaming, a true first person
shoot'em'up a long time in the coming with delicious eye popping graphics
unseen in any other game and fantastic uncompromising sound quality
blended into the game to perfection.
