Swapping a UK Cube for a US/Jap one - what to consider?

hi, i am posting this for someone who isn't a member on ntsc(yet) but they need some help in swapping from a uk cube to a ntsc one this is what they say-
OK, so now I've got my component cables for my UK Cube and Xbox, and have seen progressive scan on the Xbox through my projector... and I have a falt panel with S-video input in my room... a US Cube seems tempting.

There aren't THAT many games I'd want to keep but obviously I'd have to get Freeloader to keep running them, or by US versions. do uk games run in 60hz on a ntsc cube with freeloader and do they do prog scan?

Then there's my saves. You need seperate memory cards for US and UK saves, right? But could I just keep using my current card with UK saves on it with my UK games via freeloader? And if I bought US versions of the games (do PAL titles support prog scan?), could I open my UK saves then re-save to a US card maybe?

Anything else to bear in mind? My component cable will obviously work, but I'll lose RGB output to the TV? What about joypads? Are they compatible?

Anything else to bear in mind?
    thanks for anyhelp

No. Only NTSC software will run NTSC prog scan.

Cant make sense of what he means. Leaving Freeloader aside you need to format a card for each region.

Running it through component so you have no image issues, dont understand what he means by "losing RGB output to the TV" he's running through component so he'll have an RGB quality image at the very least and then access to prog scan mode.

Region doesnt apply t anything else (pads, cables, cards - you can format any card for any region).

He can either keep his UK PSU and run it direct from mains, or use a stepdown and the Japanese/USA PSU.

I thought (but haven't confirmed) that i read that memory cards are formatted for either JAP or ENG, so an ENG card can cope with US and UK saves?

Also, some games saves work with both the UK and US version of the game - again, I can't confirm this is 100% accurate though - but i'm sure i've read that on here or rllmuk.

If you run all your import games using a Freeloader you can use a single card as the Freeloader software forces the save to your machine's region.

If not - you use the Gamecube to format the card, the cards have no region to begin with. For example to make a USA card for USA games you switch your machine to USA mode and format - this card will then work for USA games only, same applies for Japan and UK.

I see, thanks saurian - you've saved me cocking up my cards when my ntsc cube arrives.
