A pad convertor to play NFS:Underground with would be nice

    Hello.

I have one of these: Play.com USB Dual PS2 to PC Convertor XP

But I can't get NFS:Underground to work with it. At the options screen, the selecting box goes crazy, rapidly flicking through each option and during the game, the pad rumbles all the time but I can only control the cars using the keyboard controls.

Any help in resolving the matter or recommendations on a console pad convertor for the PC that will allow me to play NFS with analogue controls (doesn't matter which console pad) would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Are you playing the demo, or the full thing?

I tried to play the demo with my GC to PC pad plugged in - it saw the right trigger and 'helpfully' assigned it to be accellerate and brake on one axis. Since the demo has the control configuration locked out (why do they do that in some demos? Its monumentally ****ing idiotic, and made me not buy several games already) you can't even change it.

So you have to half-push-in whatever it wants accellerate to be. Then letting go is accellerate, and squeezing past halfway is brake. All in all, its quite amazingly dumb. At least if you've got the full game you might stand half a chance of doing a half-squeeze (to slow down the automatically moving cursor) long enough to make it to a configuration screen.

I have the full game of NFS: Underground.

Getting through the frontend of the game with the joypad adaptor plugged in is a nightmare. It takes about 5 minutes and 500 well timed presses of the Enter key just to get a Quick Race going.

I've tried looking for some calibration tool for the adaptor but couldn't find anything.

Going off topic a little but surprisingly, all is well with MAME and Snes9x. The analog sticks work perfectly.

There is however the problem that Street Fighter (and any other fighter that requires 'roll' commands to perform special moves like the Hadoken) is very tough to play using the Dual Shock's D Pad with the adaptor. This may be because the input from the D Pad is only recognised as four different buttons - Up on the D Pad is button 15, Down on the D Pad is button 16 etc. There is no true 8 way input from the D Pad.

      *Looks to the heavens*

Is there a decent console joypad adaptor out there?

How is the XBox pad convertor? I would have thought that logically they would be the best of the bunch judging from how everyone says that the XBox is basically a simplified PC.

How does the GC adaptor work with other games, Mid? Is this compatible with the Wavebird?

The GC adaptor has been fine with everything else I've tried it with - both PC games and emulators (Mario64 with it is brilliant). The Wavebird isn't recognised by it for some annoying reason, but it does work ok with the Hori Soul Calibur II stick; MAME in particular is great with the stick instead of the pad, as you can use all six buttons on Capcom stuff.

It should be in the Windows Control panel - Joysticks - properties for that joystick. But if it works everywhere else, I suspect you need NFS:U's control config page. Assuming its got one.
