    Windoze critical updates

I've just tried getting the latest patches for XP (five of them), including the "fix" for that Sassy thing.

It downloads them but after it's finished installing them it always says it failed on each one of the hotfixes.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried installing just the sasser-related fix? If you got it via windows update it should be in your WUTemp folder. I think it's named according to the KB article that describes the problem (sorry - don't have the KB # to hand).

If you continue to have a problem, just ring MS. Support calls relating to security and virus issues are free.

Just a thought - are you letting them access the Microsoft website whilst installing or do you have a firewall blocking them ?

I used to try and stop them but updates wouldn't install properly if I did

        Still can't get this working.

What is meant to be allowed on the firewall? I've installed updates before without fiddling with the rules in kerio. Surely you can install these hotfix's even if you're offline?

I found it only installed 3 of the Patches, then decide to throw a wobbley because it needed to be restarted, so I had to download the last 2 again, ****e I know but it didn't take that long.

Evertime I've done the updates it has endlessly frozen when trying to install - unless I let it access the internet when my software firewall tells me its trying too

I assumed it was some kind of verification procedure ( but then it could just be good old Billy boy snooping for system info - what ? paranoid ? me ? )

Have you tried downloading and installing the patches one at a time ? Can't see that would make a difference but its worth a try

ZoneAlarm turns out to be the most annoying piece of tart really, the amount of times its ****ed up me downloading stuff or stopped me playing games, then locked up when I try to get back to windows to say yes to its annoying pop up box, because its over paranoid. Yes Battlefield is really dangerous and shouldnt be allowed to connect to the internet!

I think that it wont install if ZoneAlarm is on and doesnt display messages about programs which want to connect to the net (I forget the option.)

Same as everyone whinges about IE i suppose

If Zonealarm gets your goat then try Sygate Firewall.

Its what I use and I honestly can't fault it.

Zone Alarm drove me mad as well. I used to use Black Ice but now use Kerio Personal which is free and very simple to use. Highly recommended.
