Taking apart a DC arcade stick

Right, I wanted to loosen my stick up (not tighten as I mentioned to Saur on another thread, that would be stupid!).

I took the thing apart, got to the stick, and I'm confronted with a little C shaped bit of metal, round the base of the stick, and I just can;t work out how to get the thing off!

Anyone help me? My Street Fighter 3 training is on hold cos of this...

All you need to use is a really tiny phillips (flat edge) screwdriver to get the e-clip off. simply get the screwdriver into the small groove, and then firmly but gently push/prise the clip off.

It's kind of hard to describe personally, but a link to a similar case is here.

and it is a bit of a bitch to get off first time around, so don't be dishearted by it. just try and have a look around for something like those screwdrivers that you get out of crackers

i also wanted to loosen my dc stick and upon taking it apart i found that i didn't actually need to remove that c-shaped thing anyway. it wasn't actually the spring that was causing the stiffness.

if you look at the stick from the top side and pull the stick up towards you, you can see under the washer that there is a kind of ball and socket joint made of plastic. it's the plastic rubbing against plastic scenario that causes the stiffness. all i did was put a bit of wd40 into the joint and it worked a treat. the stick is now loose as hell but still retains it's springyness due to not having to tamper with the actual spring.

Putting WD40 into it will loosen it off but that's not what I was talking about.

If you want your stick's motion to be lighter so that you dont have to move it much or use any force to contact the switches you shorten the spring to ease the tension (this is for inner travel, not outer)

To remove the E clip, use a small flat watchmaker's screwdriver to lever it off - put your hand over it cos it will ping out.

          Thanks all!

I've got a little tiny flat head driver, so I'll get onto it tonight.
