    CD Repair Tools

I'm looking at getting something to fix up some discs of mine, I've found this on Gameplay, but it only got 5/10 from 100+ user ratings. Anyone know any decent CD repair tools?

That one works a treat for light scratches and scuffing that cause skipping.
If you have deeper grooves (yeah baby!) it can't help.

The best ones by far are the ludicrously expensive machines that you really can't afford. But you probably can afford to get them done by a shop with one. Several places do mail-order disc cleaning, as do some indie video rental shops. My one certainly does; the 2nd-hand ZOE I foolishly failed to look at first from a car-boot sale went from looking like it had been assaulted by a porcupine and failing to get past the Konami logo to minty fresh and playing perfectly.

I once bought the "Disc Dr" disc fixer.
        Absolute trash.

The thing worked by removing the top layer of the CD and left awful scuff marks over everything. I was hoping to use it "remint" some game discs as it were. Trust me, your discs would be worthless after using that thing.
Luckily I tested it on an old crapy DVD first.
Thing was ruined and wouldnt play properly anymore.

I would avoid those cheap disc fixers like the plague!

        EDIT:
Only just clicked the link, thats it! Thats the one, the big green one with a wheel.
Resurfacing is a fancy way of saying "scratches the top layer of plastic clean off"
Stay AWAY! From my experience it is a terrible lump of plastic, after it ruined my DVD film I returned it right back to the store.

        You have been duly warned.

Seconded, the thing is utter nads. All it does is scuff the disc up more really, and the instructions apologize for this as if it's a minor problem. I was suspicious so I tested it on a CD-R first, it made it even more unreadable.

Well I have one of those and I love it. Yep, it makes the disks look awful so it's no good if you're looking to sell your games but it has fixed every cd I ever tried it with except for one that had the mother of all scratches on it.

            Dogg.

Seems like a load of rubbish then, been reading reviews about the net and I've heard all over the place that it ****s up discs rather than fix them. I only want to remint a couple of discs like otaku84, I don't really own much THAT messed up to buy this then

              Cheers

check out perfectplay.co.uk, these machines totally kick ass, we've got one at work and it will make even the skankiest scuffed up pieces o' crap look like mint again.
