    Xbox controller on a PS2?

I'd really like to be able to use an Xbox controller on the PS2. I've had a look around on Lik-sang but the only thing I can find is something that will allow PS2 pads to be used on the Xbox/Gamecube. Does anyone know if what I'm looking for is available?

    Cheers

I have not heard of one, and doubt there will be one because:

    1) There's not much of a market for such a device; most people seem to prefer the PS2 pads.

    2) The xbox gamepad is a USB 'HID device'*. You need a relatively expensive microprocessor to be able to act as a USB host, which you would need to do in order to translate the HID report into a the simple PSX protocol. (USB On-the-go might possibly offer cheap enough micro's, but I doubt it)

    3) Creating a USB host device would be 'a bit tricky'**, and would therefor cost 'quite a bit'**

So you have a small market (1), expensive per unit cost (2), and big up-front cost(3)

The only other possibility would be to plug it directly into the USB ports on the PS2... trouble is that I don't think any of the games will take any notice of a controller plugged in there... especially not a non-standard HID device.

    * HID = 'human interface device', so 'HID device' is one of those phrases where you have a redundant word (I can't remember what that's called), but talking about a 'USB HID' as a noun just sounds silly. imho.

Apart from the technical issues, why on earth would you choose to do this?

I am another person who had Dual shock controller. I would love to use XBOX or Gamecube Pad on Playstation 2 with winning eleven 7 international but that is about likely as Coventry City winning European Cup. I think PS2 is poorly supported on non-sony products.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not a fan of the PS2 Dual Shock controllers.. looks like I'll just have to live with them!

Yep had been looking into this since last year, nobody does one, doubt if they will shame oh well nvm. I like to use an xbox pad on ps2 cos it has analog triggers, whereas PS2's are flat n horrible, so for racing games it just crap really, whereas Xbox's u can have complete control, hold the gas/revs going round corners etc. I wonder if they have PS2 pads that have the triggers sticking out like xbox's/dreamcast's now that would be the alternative...(just hope its programmed to be proper analog button sensitive).
