PS2 Memory card compatibility

Can someone tell me if a US PS2 Memory card will work on a UK PS2? This is from new, I should point out; I'm not trying to access saves on one.

I've a modded PS2, so can play US games - will they only work on these, or can they take UK ones, too?

They are region free and you can save games from all regions on one card
