I'm having a strange problem with a secondhand JPN PS3 that I've picked up. When connecting the PS3 to a standard CRT TV with a PS2 RGB lead I don't get a picture. I've checked all the connections and even tried it on another TV but no joy. As far as I can tell the machine is running perfectly though. The previous owner did say that he ran it through the hdmi cable before he let it go.

Is there a chance that the machine might be "locked" into this HD mode and needs to be changed back to an AV setting? I'm gonna try it on a friends HDTV to see if this is the case.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to reset the video settings.

Could someone help me to understand this: apparently there are some issues with the latest firmware, to do with how the PS3 outputs a Blu-ray Disc signal to a 720P screen. I've read somewhere that the image is down-scaled, meaning that it won't display in 720P.

Yep, I know that's a bit vague, but my understanding of these things is fairly limited...

            *edit* Here's the link
Sorry for this seperate topic, but I wanted to stress that people saw this before just randomly updating their system. In the old firmware, 720p had higher priority over 1080i. The new firmware update reverses this so 1080i has higher priority over 720p. The problem here is, if you play the...

It is apparently true that the PS3 will not yet downscale Blu-Ray movies to 720p, this has been an issue since day 1. But 1080i looks great on all but the crappest of screens.

I wasn't sure if I ought to make a new thread for this or post it in here, but I've just had a worrying conversation with a lady at Egg regarding "fraudulent transactions" on my Mastercard (the one I use to add funds in the Playstation Store).

Apparently there have been numerous transactions over the last 24 hours, including an order for ?175 from a company I've never heard of, some iTunes downloads, and a few other random orders for around ?10 - ?20.

Thankfully they've flagged the transactions as fraudulent and blocked the card, but seeing as the only time I've used this card in the past year was to add funds to my wallet on the PS Store, I'm wondering if there's some kind of security issue...

What billing address did you set it to? Are the purchases being made in the States?

I left the billing address as the fake US address I originally entered when setting up the account.

I don't know where the purchases were made from. I didn't think to ask. I was too shocked really, as I've never had anything like this happen before.

The only other thing is, after hearing rumours about Tekken being delayed, I decided to sign up for a HK account yesterday and see if I could add funds to that one, but both my credit cards were declined. Perhaps that's when someone somehow got my card details. It would make sense, as I've been using the US store for weeks with no problems, and the dodgy transactions started within hours of entering my details on the HK store.

What amp fuse do you guys use on your IEC Kettle leads on your PS3's?

^^^^ 5amp. My console's either been on or on standby and i've never had any issues to date.

It's funny you should say that. About 3-5 days after I bought T5: DR from the HK store before Xmas my card details were being used by someone else.

It's possible but surely it's a bit unlikely it was from that isn't it?

As far as I can tell no correspondence gets sent to the address you put in (it's all done electronically) so there's no way Mastercard or Sony would send an invoice to the false address. And even if they did both of them would be barking mad to actually include all the details to allow someone to use the card (including that 3 digit code on the back).

Of course the other suggestion could be that there's a serious security fault with the PSN. In which case

I saw references to this earlier but I cannot register for the online store from the UK on a US machine, it just rejects my credit cards saying the details are not valid. Has something happened recently on the system software side to lock us out???

EDIT never mind, borrowed the g/fs mastercard
