I bought a couple of cheap ones from Play.com. Think they were about 11.99 each and work perfectly.

From what I read there isn't much difference between HDMI cables because of how the picture/sound is transferred. Not sure if its true though but i'm more than happy with my cheapy ones

As for the plug then yep a 5amp kettle plug will work perfectly fine but as a word of warning I still don't know if the new 80gig and 40gig USA/JAP Machines have multi-voltage PSU's. There was a lot of speculation going around on the net last month and AFAIK it's still not 100%.

I'd be suprised if they didn't to be honest but better being safe than sorry.

It will just say on it that its 120-240V correct? As long as its in that range it should be okay . Can't deal with ANOTHER transformer for it :P

I got fed some BS from the Sony Store that 45 pounds was standard as their cables had no oxygen in them... yeah maybe it will be that noticeable if I had a 72 inch television... Guess I'll go for around 20 quid then

Unfortunatly not, I've just been over and checked my launch USA machine and on the sticker it only states 120v.

I'd be very suprised if they changed them as it'd probably cost more money to make a seperate one for each region. Which machine are you looking into buying bud?

Well my parents bought me the 80GB one from the USA (as it's where I'm from).

I've just had a quick look around and over on AVforums there's a guy posted today that his is arriving tomorrow and he's gonna open it up and have a look.

Its actually stamped on the PSU internally 120-240v but externally only 120v. Might be worth keeping an eye on that thread bud.

yeah I've just found that Thanks for the info.

Although from what others are saying, they're inquiring about the 40GB ones. The way it's written they seem to understand that the 80GB one is the same as 20 and 60GB ones. Just posted to see what they say

Cool, better being safe than sorry. The 80gb one is the first USA PS3 that has software emulation rather than Hardware Emulation the 20 & 60gb has so there's definatly some change.

Last thing we want is it going bang.

I would cry if it did.
Hopefully the hardware simulation will work with all the games I have, can't believe I waited this long for one, but there's just been no games I've wanted

The advantages of my parents being in the air force and me having access to the US Air Force base near here where I can grab these things Technically got it for the $499.99, so less that £250 pounds, bargain!

                  Edit:
Just seen this post on Eurogamer

Multiple sources confirm that it works for the 80GB PS3's as well

i would just like to start by saying that i just bought the new 80gb playstation from the US, i had read all of the reviews and forums etc about the power before i bought it. i came to the conclusion that i needed a power adapter of which i bought one from maplin for £17. however, to my huge disappointment, when i tried it when i got home, it didn't work, it switched on and immediately off again, i was not happy. i finally built up the courage to try my old monitor power cable, first i changed the fuse to a 3amp for good measure, and whilst crapping myself over my $800 expense, i switched it on, and it worked,
i have just bought the new 80gb us machine works perfect on uk voltage also the machine is cooler and alot quieter than the pal ps3 what i had
So all I need now is a 5amp kettle plug.
                  Is this one okay?:

Yes, although a fiver for one is robbery. If you have an IT department at work go & ask them for a kettle lead. Anyone who has any dealings with computers will likely have plenty of spares.

From what I hear, Sony have tightened up credit card registrations to the US PSN Store. I know you could previously use Mastercard even with a US address, but can anyone confirm if this is still the case for new registrations?

Am I able to register a UK registered Credit Card for use on the US Store? Can't test this as I don't currently have a PS3, but I'm considering one...

Hello there folks。I?m in Japan at the moment and would like some questions andwering about the PS3 as would like some questions answering about the PS3 as I may purchase one.

                          1. If I buy one here and bring it home to the UK, will it work ok on a UK TV the UK, will it work ok on a UK TV and power supply?

                          2. Anyone know if I will incur customs charges when I bring it back in my personal luggage?

                          3. Will I always have to use JApanese peripherals and memory cards?

If someone can answer these questions and provide any extra information it would be greatly appreciated. I`m here for another week so there isn`t much of a rush but I will check this thread regularly to see how it is updated.

                          Thanks in advance!

If you're playing in HD, then all games will work and display fine, if it's SD only NTSC-J games will work (providing your tele does NTSC). Peripherals are region free. You'll just need a standard kettle cord as the PSU is universal.

Play-Asia are showing this when I attempt to buy GT5 Prologue or a Dual Shock 3:

This item is not available for shipping to
                              European Union
                              Iceland
                              Liechtenstein
                              Norway

Does this really mean that they won't ship it to me in the UK?
