Value Added Tax (VAT) in advance, per the IOSS system

Hey guys. I've got some stuff being shipped via FedEx from Japan and it's giving me this option when I go to pay. Does this mean I won't get a nasty customs charge when the items arrive in the UK and they should sail through customs and be with me quicker?

    Cheers

Yep, if you get the opportunity these days to pay the tax up front I'd always do it and save yourself the ~£12 clearance fee they charge. I've never had a Fedex parcel through without charges so you almost certainly will end up paying VAT anyway.

The only way they'll be held up in customs is if they decide to take a look inside.
