      aye Kaze was taken

I was planning on picking up WoW but then heard you can't play the import here unless you have a US billing address or something? I like the idea of playing on a PvP server tbh

You can play US WoW as long as you have US billing or a US address and some means of obtaining those play cards (which I assume work like payg mobile phone vouchers). As I mentioned in the WoW thread I just started here, our time on the US server will be more of a learning exercise, so we can be prepared to get stuck in when the EU servers go live shortly next year.

You can probably imagine the perparation going on behind the scenes here

Well, I played this today, and found it to be awful. It has a truly *horrible* interface, which requires the mouse all the time (I hate using the mouse when you can do something at 4 times the speed with a keyboard), dodgy graphics, and compared to the likes of FFXI, seems backwards. Well, I would say that since I play FFXI all the time, but just looking at the game in general, it seems very ropey. I don't like it. And I can't get my money back on it. ****e.

Dodgy graphics? It pushed my 9800pro with some sublime shadow and lighting, not to mention outdoor areas.

Hmm.. I'll naturally be giving this another go, I didn't change any graphical settings cos it was getting quite laggy (around 20 fps in the starting area). Hehe...

By dodgy graphics, I mean the way characters look very out of place. I started in the 'good' city.. meh.

Half, I thought the same when I played the Beta.

But its a case of getting past what your used to with FFXI.

I am starting to enjoy it more and more but its taken time to get used to it as did FFXI when I started that.

                    Ok,

Got my new desktop computer today.

EQ2 runs so much better now and seems to have improved the enjoyment of the game alot.

I still cant run it on top settings with a decent frame rate, I have it running smooth though on High Quality.

I am starting to get into the combat now, its not upto FFXI standard but its still good.

What are your new system specs and how do they compare to your old ones?

I've got a 1.9 ghz AMD athlon processor
                      1gb ram
Nvidia Geforce 5900 XT gfx card
                      60gb hard disk space

I did want to improve that processor however, but as my system stands atm, any idea what kind of performance I'm looking at?

Played it for a good 3 or 4 hours again yesterday and it's starting to grow on me. I was in the frame of mind where it was a game pretty much the same as FFXI (from everything I've read on the internet etc.) but I've found the truth to be far from it. It is *very* quest orientated, and has the (imo very good) system whereby you gain experience points for doing quests. At the moment I'm a level 6 or 7 (can't remember) Thiefy thing. I'm enjoying the fact that I get 1-2 new abilities at every level up, and already I've had some interesting ones come my way.
First of all, I have this ability that makes everyone in my party run slightly faster. I've also got a "Fast Strike" style ability that I can use every 5 seconds or so, that does a damaging attack, and a "Sneak Attack" that is exactly like the FFXI equivalent, and can be reused every 5 seconds or so as well.
Last night I teamed up with 3 other people and we went and killed some ship captain for a quest I was on. It was great fun, we were all noobs and didn't have a clue what we were doing, so it was particularly comical when the Warrior blokey started legging it when he was close to death. Got some tasty rewards though .
I'm supposed to speak to some officials to go to a new island, but I don't know where to go. Hehe.

So far, I'm starting to like this game more, but like mikewl said, it is by no means a replacement for FFXI.

                          My new system is a
                          P4 3.6gig
                          1gig Ram
                          ATI X600 Graphics
                          and the usual stuff

I spent out on a new flat screen monitor and a ?50 dvi cable, I think this helps alot as I installed FFXI again last night and it looks awsome.

Halfpint, I think when moving MMO you really have to consider why it is in the first place you are moving; constant comparisons to FFXI aren't entirely valid. Indeed, if FFXI is the benchmark, why have you left the game?

                            Move on.

                              Errr, constant comparisons to FFXI because it's 'the' MMOG that I play, and also because every other poster in this thread apart from you play it too... just putting the discussion in context that other people would understand what I'm talking about. I see you've mentioned your SWG clan a number of times in the WoW thread but I don't particularly mind. Don't troll >.>;

And... for your information... I haven't moved on from FFXI. In fact I'm playing it as I type this post. I'm trying out EQ2 because EQ was a very hyped game, and I want to see what all the fuss is about without playing something nearly 6 years old and on the way out. And finally, because FFXI is very frequently compared to WoW and EQ2 anyway.

Finally got off the starting island today too. Went to Qeynos and my god it's laggy . I'm still a bit confused about certain aspects of the game, but I'm getting there. The interface, which I've mentioned before, is growing on me, but I still think there's something missing in the 'partying' aspect of the game. But I'm still just a noob so I guess that section of the game hasn't really developed yet.

I'm not trolling you soft sod, was giving practical advice on having utterly cained 3 MMOs now and experienced the whole "well XYZ did things like this, which I kinda preferred actually".

You can't seriously play multiple MMOs btw, hence my thinking you have moved on from FFXI in sampling EQ2; a legitimate assumption to make, I think you'll find.
