problem with old gamer tag and new profile on the xbox 360

ok,i got my xbox360 about a week ago and have spent many hrs on it,
only today did i get my live account online,
problem is the live account is a different tag (was the one i had on the xbox)
does anyone know if it is possible to change the name of my new account to that of my tag,
i.e. so i dont have to restart all my games and lose all my saved progress??

I don't think you can 'merge' them. I had the same dilemma (not weeks though, only about 2 days) and just ended up having to erase those achievements.

Or, I think you can just connect to live and create a new tag associated with the current profile.

yeah,
looked into it and couldnt find a way to merge them,
so i've bitten the bullet and will start from scratch tomorrow
