Played around with a little Oddball variant last night, lead to some interesting games:

It's basically tactical Oddball. Skull carrier gets a point a second, and 5 points per kill. For everyone else, killing the skull carrier is fine, but kill anyone else and you're penalised 10 points. First to 100.

Still no ****ting sound. My mate has just skipped all the opening cinematics and dived into campaign. It's totally unplayable with no sound. I might lend him my 360 until I get it sorted so if I've gained a southern accent over live in the coming week you know what's wrong.

Back to 40 vs. 40 WoW for me until I get this amp fixed/replaced.

yeah, you need the sound with Halo. It was Halo that made me buy a surround system in the first place. I found the surround calibration tool funny. Then again, I am still well impressed with surround sound in general.

After a couple of days away from the game, I played 4 or 5 Team Slayer games this morning ... hells bells, has everyone suddenly gone all ninja while I've been away? Lost every single game. Very frustrating, especially when people nail you twice with the sniper rifle while they're jumping out of a building ... I suspect there are more than a few XFPS devices out there.

I was, however, the leading contributor of kills in one of the games ... how d'you get the MVP achievement? Do you also have to be on the winning side?
