Agreed with Stuey, you can just race people for fun in lobby mode too and its no pressure good fun if you dont want the stress of losing a rank etc, no real language knowledge required as pretty much 99% of people will accept any challenge, people are just there to race etc.

What do you chaps think about this wheel
want to pick up a new one asap to replace my busted oldie, they dont come cheap tho these accessories

Holy Crap Stuey! 55 hours already! I'm only comin up to 15hours or so which for me is actually quite alot. i intend to catch up with you tho. I can't let my rivals get further ahead of me! My ae86 is fully set-up how i want it now except for the tofu shop sticker. Almost finished the main game now too. Beat all the characters that can be seen when you first start playin. Just gotta beat the pro racer and I imagine Bunta will make an appearance?

Is that wheel the driving force pro Largo? If it is I've caved in and ordered that exact wheel against my better judgement. (i always end up goin back to traditonal controllers) Been readin some impressions and reviews of it and all in all it seems to be a good choice. I'll let you know what i think of it this week, if you haven't already been tempted by its charms.

Johnny, I think we'll need to be gettin the jpn version soon. Show these guys how we race in Belfast.

            Certainly the more the merrier!

@Largo I keep looking at that wheel myself the only thing that's putting me off is the gear shifter being on the wrong side. For that reason, 3 times this week I've put a G25 in an online shopping basket and got as far as the sites checkout before wussing out, I don't know how long I can resist.

And going slightly off topic I found my official Initial D Kyosho Mini Zs in the loft at the weekend.

They're nearly 6 years old now.

Ahh yes but the pro also has gear paddles behind the wheel so you dont have to use the stick, which i thought was nice

I think the G25 is pretty overkill for initial d btw hehe

Nice car collection, no wonder you know your way around this game, initial d nut! :P

Nice cars there Stuey, are they the remote control ones that come inside a cylinder box?
I've just put an order in for the official guide book for Arcade Stage 4, can't read a word of Japanese, but looks like it's got a lot of diagrams of the courses and racing lines etc so I might be able to pick up some tips from it to put to use.

I really need to look into getting a wheel now as well, for anyone who's ordered a Driving Force Pro how much did you pay, the ones I've found all seem to be between ?60-?70, just wondering if anyones found them cheaper.

Seemed to 60-70 where I looked aswell. I ended up just getting one off amazon. Closer to £70 shipped but didn't want any hassle from ebay on quite an expensive item.

As my car is ready to roll I had a few laps earlier at the Myogi course. Doesn't match up to you guys posted so far but maybe it'll inspire people to post a few times even if they're not the best.

Racing against your own ghost car is pretty sweet. Reminds me of the anime where Takumi is battling it out with himself.

                    Times updated.

                    Brent nice time for Akina

jamesy I'm sure that you'll find some more time on Myogi. Once I get round to it I'll post up all my times for the other tracks they are less than inspiring and will prove canon fodder but will be an excuse to try different car/track options.

The mini-z's are proper 1/24 RC cars from Kyosho, the early versions like mine are 2WD and the more recent revision went to AWD.

                      Whoops!

Picked this up in Tottenham Court Road today. As expected there's no clutch support but the six shifter works just fine and adds a bit more to my game play experience, the wheel feels solid and precise in use, very good I'd say. I shaved a little bit off my Myogi best and now down to a 2:38:141. It's already paid for itself.

I'm going have a play around on GT5 for a bit and then come back for some more ID4 over the weekend, keep the times coming I'll try and keep up with updating the thread.

Ahhh looks awesome! Just got my driving force pro wheel delivered yesterday, would've loved to get the g25 myself but couldn't handle that price tag.

Same car etc on Myogi I've managed a 2'40"871 now. Improving a little anyway.

Is there any specific method you guys are using? I've been playin for about 17 hours now and i'm still just kinda guessing how to drive. I think i've worked out a good tactic every so often but i still do that thing where you kinda get locked sideways and just slide to the outside barrier.

                        Also Bunta is impossible!

It goes a bit like this (the general belief etc) that each corner on a course, the game has an allowed top speed you can take it at, coded in or something. So if you enter to fast then you will do that half spin stuff and back end will hit the guard rail losing you some speed.
How i play is to let off the gas and tap the brake all the way down then back on the gas again before/during the corner, but the braking before hand, usually only needs a let off and tap, this will usually be enough to get you down to the required corner speed (of course in some cases theres no need todo this if its a big sweaping turn) hope that helps.

Pro sounds nice, im umming and ahhing a bit to spend the money

I'll probably end up going with Amazon as well, was perfectly happy with my decision to buy a Driving Force Pro but now with no thanks to Stuey posting that pic of his G25 i'm not so sure now, looks like my wallet might become about ?150 lighter, why did you have to do it Stuey!!

I was barrier bashing all the way & thought 'this can't be right', I then started to look at the Asian guys online (which was easy since I was always behind them), and as Largo was saying, they did 'drive' the curcuit, not hitting any barriers - poetry in motion to be honest.

Started to try the technique myself and has produced wonders, my Cappuccino is destroying the times I did in the Skyline and it's nowhere near as tuned.

Cheers for the hints guys. Hopefully it'll improve my times.

Ampanman, I noticed you mentioned your quicker in the cappuccino. Is that because your employing some new ninja techniques or is there actually any difference in the handling of different cars? or maybe all FR's handle the same but slightly different to all 4WD's?
