How on earth did y guys get 1'51" on Yoshi's Circuit? The closest I can get is 2'02". I know of 2 shortcuts on the track using mushrooms, the one at the start to jump a little chasm and then the secret tunnel when you fall off the track. Is there one I'm missing?

I need loads of practise. I have only won gold on the 50cc's and on the 100cc Mushroom cup, but I wanted to start time trialling already.

Baby Park good starting point eh? After a 30 minute session just now I managed to get my time down to about 1'20" with Baby Bowser and Diddy in the Para Wing. I think I got the racing line right as at first I was concentrating on drift boosts but that recent time is without any boosts (except the 2 mushrooms!). My best lap is around 0'10"91.

Is the lack of drift boosting going to affect my time that much?

by drift boost do you mean the mini turbo? if so then the answer is yes. doing the mini turbo in the right places is vital to getting decent time trial times. on baby park i do 2 right turn mt's round each corner and 1 left turn mt as i come out of the corner and hit the straight. use your mushrooms on the straight just after releasing the left turn mt.

            here are my latest times:

            luigi circuit:
            T: 1'21'355
            L: 26'525

            peach beach:
            T: 1'13'975
            L: 24'289

            baby park:
            T: 1'08'809
            L: 9'306

            mario circuit:
            T: 1'38'436
            L: 31'840

            yoshi circuit:
            T: 1'50'345
            L: 36'034

            bowser castle:
            T: 2'44'272
            L: 54'347

all times achieved using toad/toadette - barrel train. i noticed a lot of the world records were being set with the barrel train so i gave it a go and managed to beat all my times. takes a while to get used to the different handling though.

I knew the barrel train was pretty cool Yay me though - beat the staffer on Baby Park; 1'11"056, with the same driver combo.

              w00t

edit: awesome times shortround oh, I feel like I can work on some other times now

where do you find the staff times or how do you get the staff ghosts?

Ive completed all the cups on all the CC's and mirrors too!!

You get staffers for getting a decent time in time trail. I think the staff ghost appears on Baby Park for a 1'13 time. Luigi's course is a 1'25, I think... maybe worth checking GameFAQs to see if someone has them down yet.

The staff ghosts also seem to appear when you select one of your own ghosts that beat the trigger time.

Although I haven't played in about a week (lack of time and now got 1080) I can't see how you can do so many drift boosts in a row! I feel like my hand will slip off of the controller just doing the one. I normally end up facing the wrong way or something if I do hit them and I can only do them say 30% of the time on left hand turns! Gah!

I found double-tapping the direction you're drifting helped, so much so infact that you hardly need to "drift" to get the boost. It is possible to do about 3 down a straight this way, although it does take practice to get it down without fail... and a none-sweaty thumbstick. God damn the amount of times I lost my grip on the pad
